Forty years ago, a congressional resolution designated Saturday, February 28, 1986, as National TRIO Day to celebrate the annual achievements of the Federal TRIO Programs across the country.
Since then, the TRIO community has observed the fourth Saturday in February as National TRIO Day, a time to highlight the needs of disadvantaged young people and adults striving to improve their lives. It is a reminder of the potential that can be unlocked through investment in education and opportunity.
TRIO Programs, especially Upward Bound, have transformed millions of lives by providing access to higher education, academic support, and personal development. These programs break barriers for first generation, low income students, ensuring they not only enter college but also persist and graduate.
Upward Bound has been a beacon of hope, equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to pursue their dreams. It helps them navigate the college process, explore career pathways, and develop leadership skills that extend far beyond the classroom.
