Cal Callahan

I started writing this book about six years ago. At the time, I thought it would be something I could knock out in 12–18 months. I had a story, a perspective, and what I thought was enough clarity to put it all together. But the truth is, I was still in it. Still living it. Still being worked on by the very things I was trying to write about. And over time, it became clear that this wasn’t a book I could force into existence. It had its own timing. It needed more life, more friction, more honesty. In a lot of ways, it needed more of me.

What’s come through now is something much more personal than I originally set out to write. There are pieces of my journey in here that I’ve touched on in conversations over the years, but a lot of it is new. Quieter. Closer to the bone. And the intention isn’t to teach or prescribe anything, rather it’s to share what it’s looked like for me to unravel some of the patterns, identities, and beliefs I didn’t even realize I was carrying. If there’s one thing I hope someone feels when they read it, it’s this: wherever you are right now, even if it’s messy, uncertain, or uncomfortable, you’re not off track. You’re not behind. You’re right in the middle of it. And maybe, just maybe, that’s exactly where you’re meant to be.
