This proposal operates as a light steel armature to produce a condition of adaptability. The scaffold creates bundles of permanent structure and utility pipes. Modular wall units plug into rails in the triangular grid of the floor plates, while a secondary structural layer of circulation, egress, and balconies form a porous boundary between interior and exterior life. These axons test 5 different living scenarios to see whether our kit of parts proposal can support diverse modes of living:
The Wong Family
A multi-generational immigrant family, the Wongs are organized across two levels. Grandparents, Wai (72) and Shun (75), live on the first floor for accessibility, while their son David (45), his wife Clara (43), and their children Kevin (12) and Sophie (9) occupy the second floor—with the option to shift downstairs as mobility needs evolve.
The Alvarez Household
Carlos Alvarez (41), a pianist and music teacher, lives and works from home, offering piano lessons to neighborhood children. His unit accommodates acoustic needs and flexible scheduling, blending domestic and instructional space.
The Chen Siblings
International students Jian Chen (22) and Dan Chen (20) share a unit designed around parity and independence. With equal-sized rooms and shared study space, their home supports both academic focus and a balanced sibling dynamic.
The Lin Family
Mei Lin (38) is a single mother raising four children—Jaden (14), Lili (11), Marcus (8), and Anya (5). Their home prioritizes shared space and adaptability, supporting a dynamic, high-energy household with room for both privacy and collective life.
The Rivera-Kim Family
Daniel Rivera (36) and Eric Kim (34) are raising their daughter, Maya (6), in a home that emphasizes openness and inclusivity. Their space supports family life while remaining connected to the broader community network of the building.
