1st NB and sixth overall! 🏆
Now I have your attention- I eat a 90% vegan diet these days (I can still be a sucker for a pastry) and I’m fitter and stronger and quicker than I was in my twenties. But I’m not doing it for my health. Over the last decade I’ve come to understand quite how much greenhouse gas emissions, land and water use, habitat loss and deforestation from mass agriculture are killing the planet. I hear people saying they couldn’t give up meat because they’d be too tired/ they need the animal protein/ they couldn’t exercise without it/ just that they love it too much - none of those reasons are enough to be consuming as much meat as we do.
Moving toward a more plant-based diet by taking a day or two or five off meat every week is arguably the single most useful thing we can do to negate rapidly escalating climate change and quite literally the end of the world as we know it.
Every day I feel so incredibly sad at how close we are to climate collapse and I’m sure people will either roll their eyes at this post or unfollow me or mute but that’s fine, it still feels worth the cost of saying it.
