On July 8th, the billionaire vulture capitalists on the Mass General Brigham Board of Directors forced over 4500 Brigham and Women's Hospital nurses and MGB Home Care clinicians to go on strike by refusing to negotiate a fair contract.
As punishment, the MGB board imposed a four-day lock out, refusing to allow the nurses back into the hospital, even though they were ready to return to work and resume care of their patients.
On July 10th, members of HCW4P, CIR, and BDS Boston showed up in solidarity with the striking nurses. We called out the pathetic attempt by the MGB board to break the strike and break the nurses’ spirit, and the lie of their austerity narrative: a 0% raise for nurses while making record profits, and sparing no cost to pay for scabs, who lacked the professional expertise to adequately care for MGB patients.
When it comes to protecting their million-dollar salaries and obscene profits, money is no object for CEO Anne Klibanski and the MBG board—protecting patients’ lives and the livelihoods of the nurses who care for them be damned.
One of these board members is James Taiclet, the CEO of Lockheed Martin that supplies Israel with the fighter jets and missles used to target medical facilities and healthcare workers in Palestine, Lebanon, and Iran. Since the beginning of the genocide in Gaza, Israel has targeted and killed over 1700 healthcare workers.
After harming countless Palestinians abroad, James Taiclet is now harming patients here in Boston by doing what he does best: prioritizing bloody profit over livesaving patient care.
A man who doesn't value human life will never value the workers who preserve it.
It’s time to remove Taiclet from the MGB board and negotiate a fair contract for MGB nurses! It’s time to prioritize healthcare workers over warmongers!
