The National Portrait Gallery: When the Architecture Steals the Show
A couple of months ago, while visiting Canberra, I made the National Portrait Gallery a priority after family and plenty of people on Reddit told me it was a must-see.
With my RICOH GR IIIx, I walked in expecting to spend my time admiring the portraits. Instead, I found myself completely distracted by the architecture (surprise surprise….!)
The afternoon light poured through the floor-to-ceiling windows, filling the gallery with this incredible golden glow. The way it wrapped itself around the timber and concrete was impossible to ignore. I wandered slowly, chasing textures and quiet moments… The GR IIIx felt perfectly suited to the space, letting me quietly document the details that caught my eye without interrupting the atmosphere.
Then, before I knew it, it was time to leave.
The funny thing is... I honestly couldn't tell you what exhibition was on that day. But I can still remember exactly how that building felt.
Sometimes a place leaves its mark not because of what's hanging on the walls, but because of the way the light makes you stop and look a little longer.
