i mean if we didn’t call it “school” would it be normal? everyone gets offended when someone says schools resemble prisons. instead of wondering why the comparison exists.

if two institutions share certain structural features, parents should feel free to ask whether those features serve children’s development or to make large systems easier to manage 👀

Dear God - I remember in seventh grade we’d get in trouble for asking to go to the bathroom. My mom had to call my teacher to make it right. Also we would get in trouble for yawning 😓 catholic school trauma…

I don’t care where they go as long as kids learn to read proficiently. The illiteracy rate in this country is shameful.
