O. armatus inhabits woodlands, forest edges, and other vegetation-rich habitats. Adults are primarily nocturnal and climb vegetation to feed on the leaves of a variety of plants. The larvae, in contrast, develop in the soil, where they feed on roots and organic matter before pupating.
Adults can be observed from early spring through summer, but during the day they remain hidden beneath stones, bark, leaf litter, or dense vegetation, making daytime encounters relatively uncommon.โขโข
