The name “Toronto” comes from an Indigenous word meaning “where there are trees standing in the water,” which honestly felt pretty perfect standing here at sunrise.

I woke up before my alarm and caught the city glowing pink and gold over the lake, with the waves doing their quiet little sparkle thing. No crowds, no noise, just this.

Toronto is slowly settling back into itself after weeks of World Cup chaos taking over downtown. Big moments arrive loud and leave quietly. The lake doesn’t care either way. It just keeps doing this every morning, whether we’re watching or not.

Maybe the real gift is being awake enough to witness an ordinary moment.
