Frankie & fern’s a beautiful rooftop cafe in Holland Village with an interior that’s so pleasing to the eye. Definitely the kind of place that makes me want to come back often just for the aesthetics and atmosphere.

The Frankie’s Breakfast ($28) came with scrambled eggs, wilted kale, feta, thick-cut bacon, pork fennel sausage, rosemary-pickled tomatoes, portobello and sourdough. Unfortunately, this was a little underwhelming for me. The kale lacked flavour, and I felt it would have worked better incorporated into a salad as a side. The pork fennel sausage leaned towards the drier side, and would have been much better if it were more moist and juicy. The scrambled eggs were cooked well, although there wasn’t much to comment on as they were fairly standard. I quite enjoyed the rosemary-pickled tomatoes, which were the only component that really stood out in terms of flavour. The sourdough was another letdown. Dry and not well buttered, with some parts verging on burnt. Unfortunately, the burnt taste was quite prominent and brought down the overall experience. Honestly, nothing particularly stood out and I felt they could have done more to elevate and improve the dish.

The Herb Butter Linguine ($?*) with bafun uni, crab meat, rosemary butter, crispy leek, parmesan and cured egg yolk looked amazing, although I didn’t get to try it. My friend seemed to be enjoying it!
*Served part as their lunch set, but can be ordered ala carte. Forgot the price of this dish, sorry!

The Potato Mille Feuille ($13) with lemongrass chilli aioli and curry leaf was easily my favourite. Loved the contrast of crisp and soft layers, while the chilli and curry leaf gave it a refreshing kick that made it more interesting than the usual cafe sides.

The Honey Yuzu ($8) was refreshing and nicely balanced, a drink that tasted true to its name.

Overall, the food was just okay for me this time, but I’d definitely return to try other dishes. I could’ve ordered the wrong dish this time round, but i’ll be back because the vibes here are worth coming back for.
