The derail isn't a derail.

Your client is reprocessing a narcissistic abuse memory and the channel keeps opening onto things that feel off target. The sister who didn't believe them. The friend who took his side. The HR meeting. The custody hearing.

That isn't your client losing the thread. That's the memory network telling you the abuse was never contained to the relationship.

Standard protocol handles this. What standard protocol can't do is compensate for phase 1 and 2 that were built for single incident trauma.

Four places this shows up:

Reprocessing that wanders and won't stay put
Recent events you're not sure are stable enough to target
A client too scared to say what happened, and a partner you're a little afraid of yourself
Attachment wounds you can see but can't assess from an adult developmental lens

Every one of them traces back to prep.

Preparing Narcissistic Abuse Survivors for EMDR Reprocessing. 12 EMDRIA, NBCC, and APA CE credits, self paced. Link in bio.

Which of these four have you seen most? 1, 2, 3, or 4.
