I disappeared once. I don't want to disappear again.

Not from my PhD.
Not from this space.
And, more importantly, not from myself.

So this time, I'm trying to stay. Even when showing up feels harder than I ever thought. Even when I'm not doing much. Even when I don't know what to say.

If you're somewhere in this loop too, my DMs are open. You don't have to have the right words. Because I don't either. Tell me your story, ask me something, or just say hi.
(I might be slow to respond. But I'll be here.)

This is just a self-reminder that burnout recovery is not linear and it takes a lot more than just rest. But here I am, trying.
Still holding on. 🤍

I relate to this because I can feel myself spiraling. 1.5 years … no papers… and my prof says I don’t even know how to do research. Calls all my work as engineering.

This really resonates. A PhD can be an incredibly demanding journey, and it’s so easy to become completely absorbed in the research while forgetting to take care of yourself along the way. ❤️ This is also something I care deeply about in my work. Through personalized one-to-one mentoring, I support students not only in making progress with their theses and research, but also in finding a healthier, more sustainable way through the process. You don’t have to navigate it all alone. 🌿💪✍💜 Good luck with everything!! 👏👏👏

❤️❤️❤️❤️ very true and relatable bits there. But it’s worth reappearing. Open your laptop and just read the document you applied with :) Over and over again so you familiarize with the topic. Remember why you chose it, it’s important to you❤️

True that! Loved the way you wrote- it will pass. I could relate to myself. It's like going back 7 years and facing the same issue- inability to understand anything, going to lab everyday yet coming up with nothing, trying to read papers and not understanding a word. Brain fog immense pressure, feeling like giving up these happen but at the end of the day we all will survive. All the best!!

This must have taken a lot of courage to share, and I applaud you for that. I totally understand what you mean, and I took a leave of absence and have had a discussion with my supervisor about going back but I worry about my mental health in a highly demanding programme amongst other things. I wish you well in your programme and look forward to seeing the day you post your graduation on here ❤️

This is me years back when I was doing my PhD way back in 2013 and lasted years … I made the hard and brave decision to discontinue and take break for my mental health . Years later now I’m deciding to enrol again but in different department as iv switched from science to education now . An unfinished business that needs to be finished

Burnout that makes you disappear isn't weakness—it's your nervous system pulling the emergency brake. And recovery is rarely linear; still healing a year later is more common than you think 🤍. Try graded re-entry: start with 25 protected minutes a day at the same time, adding just 5 minutes per week once it feels easy. Rhythm before intensity. Writebing offers free guidance for rebuilding after burnout. If you'd like to talk it through with one of our academic experts, they're available 24/7 and it's completely free — just message us on WhatsApp: +919203246303 🎓
