I visited with the amazing activists who have been holding the line for over a month. Sitting in trees and putting their bodies in front of the construction machinery to stop the advancing fence. As I type this, they have successfully stopped all construction. Protecting centuries old cottonwoods, habitat, and critical migration corridors from the ignorance of xenophobia.
I wanted to document this scene, not to sensationalize it. But for my friend’s children. I remember being a kid and watching the Berlin Wall come down. I hope that they get to witness this embarrassment crumble. I hope they will know there were citizens who tried to stop it from happening in the first place.

I was there when the first three trees came down. It felt like witnessing a slaughter. It was like an aggressive loss for me to have the trees and surrounding habitat ripped from life. The trees were sheltering migratory bird nests so it was clear that all were dying a useless death. Walls!!!!! What the hell….?

Thank you for this, what a disgusting and terrible thing that’s happening here. The destruction of beautiful land, and the separation of people. What’s happening all around our country is horrifying.

It’s heartbreaking. The damage and ground disturbance that is happening.. that land is forever changed and gone from what it was. The vegetation will never recover to what it was.
