Ironman Nice 70.3 World Championship Race Report: swipe each pic to read entire report…I qualified for this race at Musselman 70.3 last year. My coach @coach.p.k told me that if I qualified for 70.3 world champs, she would come with me. HELL YES! We had a year to prepare for this. And once again, I had another injury-free year of Ironman training, at age 57, no doubt due to my customized and carefully periodized training plan, crafted by Coach tailored to me. Worth every penny! We arrived in Nice 5 days before race day to acclimate both to the hot temps and time change….and also as a buffer if pre-race shit went sideways, and boy did it ever! During descent practice with @triangelahaha_ , my rear wheel bearings blew and deemed unrideable by the on-site mechanics. WTFFFF! No bike shops carried the parts. All bike rentals sold out. All rear wheel rentals sold out. Cue PANIC mode. Coincidentally I run into my swim coach from 2019 Florida camp. She’s injured and offered me her road bike to use! Then I find out my dear friend @charlotte.e.berry booked a last min flight to spectate and she can bring my rear disc race wheel with her! My wonderful hubby @himarkus hightailed the wheel to @jp_at_brownssports where he and Morgane packed it up for travel and then Mark delivered wheel to Charlotte. Charlotte arrived with the wheel a mere couple hours before bike check-in closed. Oh the STRESS!!! Charlotte literally saved my race! Coach said you need a back-up plan to a back-up plan. The 1.9km swim: I did a timed swim event a couple days before race day to practice the full swim course. I highly recommend this. I panicked a bit during the practice swim, however, on race day, not a shred of panic. The Mediterranean Sea is a deep aqua-marine blue, warm and buoyant. You could see lil fishies 🐟 as you headed out to the first buoy. Too warm for wetsuit, which I anticipated and thus had trained in my swim skin, which I love.
