Riots of Colours; Ft. The National Bird.
The theme of the National Wildlife Week 2026, says - “Connecting Habitats, Thriving Wildlife.”
The Indian Peafowls are one brightest example of wildlife is not only confined within isolated protected areas. They thrive in a remarkably diverse range of habitats—from deciduous forests, scrublands and woodland edges to agricultural landscapes, villages and urban institutional campuses. They demonstrate how wildlife adapts and persists across a mosaic of natural and human-dominated landscapes when the habitat is not essentially threatening their existence, allowing them the basic space.
Their presence across diverse Indian landscapes gives a powerful reminder that conserving wildlife means conserving the entire living landscape—forests, grasslands, wetlands, farms, villages and the ecological links between them. Protecting and connecting these habitats are essential for ensuring that India’s wildlife continues to thrive in a peaceful coexistence with the human population of the country.
