We gathered outside Councilmember Oswald Feliz’s office in the Bronx this morning to urge him to hold a hearing for
@chiosse’s CURB Act (Int. 796) to disband the NYPD’s Strategic Response Group.
With 26 Council Members in support, the CURB Act needs just a few more votes to pass in the City Council.
Instead of being met with an open space to peacefully assemble, we were met with police barricades, an entire block shut down, and aggressive counterprotesters who assaulted members of our peaceful gathering while the NYPD stood by.
This is exactly why the SRG and the NYPD’s handling of peaceful protests must be fundamentally reformed. We won’t be intimidated. Disband the SRG. Pass the CURB Act.
