A collective vision & engine to fight for a NYC that provides dignity, care & justice for all. We demand #CareNotCuts, #CareNotCops & #PeoplesBudget!
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
NYC has paid nearly $1 BILLION for NYPD misconduct lawsuits since 2018 💰

Four years running, the bill has topped $100 million. The money doesn’t come from the NYPD. It comes from you.

WHAT WE WON IN THE 2026 NYC BUDGET 🏙️

Last month, we won a people’s budget. Here’s the full story 👇

🔴 Trump pulled critical federal funding
🔴 Hochul still won’t tax the rich
🔴 We were left with a massive deficit for NYC

What we won anyway:
✅ Deficit closed - not on working people’s backs
✅ NYPD headcount kept flat
✅ Defeated a proposal to hire 580 new officers (11th hour win!)
✅ $175M for City FHEPS housing vouchers
✅ $79M to expand Fair Fares
✅ $18M for crisis & mental health care
✅ $15M for gender-affirming care
✅ +800% funding to fight hate violence

We won because we organized. Years of Care Not Cuts and fighting with our incredible partner organizations for a people’s budget.

What’s still missing:
❌ Free fares for low-income riders
❌ Full CityFHEPS expansion
❌ The ultra-rich still aren’t paying their share

What’s next:
📅 November budget modifications are coming
🛡️ We’re fighting to protect services from Mamdani’s proposed 2.5% cuts
🚔 And to rein in police + corrections spending

This is a new era for NYC. Let’s keep organizing.

WE STOPPED 175-B!

The speaker did not have the votes to override the veto of 175-B. That’s a HUGE victory, and it’s no accident. Thousands of us rose up to make sure of it. That’s what organizing looks like.

Instead of listening from school communities and New Yorkers who want to protect the right to protest, TODAY the Speaker is moving to introduce a new bill that is still dangerous. It will STILL hand NYPD the power to suppress dissent at a time when New Yorkers are actively defending our school communities from fascism and ongoing ICE raids.

We’re watching, we’re staying organized, and we’re going to keep fighting back. It’s time to get rid of this proposal for good. by @peoplesplannyc

Yesterday, we showed up at Councilmember Feliz’s Bronx office with one ask: hold a hearing on the CURB Act.

Instead, we were met with police barricades, a shut-down block, and counterprotesters who put hands on people in our group while NYPD officers watched.

This is how the SRG handles peaceful protest. It’s time for accountability.

27 Council Members already back Int. 796. Councilmember Feliz, schedule the hearing.

Disband the SRG. Pass the CURB Act. ✊ by @peoplesplannyc

We showed up at Councilmember Feliz’s office in the Bronx this morning with one ask: hold a hearing on the CURB Act.

What we got was police barricades, a fully shut-down block, and counterprotesters who put hands on people in our group while NYPD officers watched.

That’s the SRG model in action: treat protest as a threat, protect the people who escalate, and call it public safety.

26 Council Members already back Int. 796, so we’re only a few votes away. Councilmember Feliz, schedule the hearing.

Disband the SRG. Pass the CURB Act. ✊ by @peoplesplannyc

We gathered outside Councilmember Oswald Feliz’s office in the Bronx this morning to urge him to hold a hearing for @chiosse’s CURB Act (Int. 796) to disband the NYPD’s Strategic Response Group.

With 26 Council Members in support, the CURB Act needs just a few more votes to pass in the City Council.

Instead of being met with an open space to peacefully assemble, we were met with police barricades, an entire block shut down, and aggressive counterprotesters who assaulted members of our peaceful gathering while the NYPD stood by.

This is exactly why the SRG and the NYPD’s handling of peaceful protests must be fundamentally reformed. We won’t be intimidated. Disband the SRG. Pass the CURB Act. by @peoplesplannyc

Thursday afternoon, an ICE agent shot Oscar Belgal in the neck in front of his 5-year-old son in Marble Hill.

Mayor Mamdani has called for abolishing IFE, and we agree, but that fight happens at the federal level. Here’s what we can do right now at City Hall ➡️

→ Stop NYPD from clearing the way for ICE
→ Close the HSI loophole and pull NYPD off HSI task forces
→ End qualified immunity for every officer in NYC
→ Fund legal defense for every New Yorker facing deportation

Swipe for the full list and the bills to pass, including the NYC Trust Act (Int. 209), Int. 1077 and Int. 1078.

Comment MELT ICE to take action now.

The NYPD's Strategic Response Group (SRG) has consistently threatened, attacked, and arrested protesters. SRG officers have demonstrated a clear pattern of targeting people of color and using excessive force - and the city has spent millions on legal settlements stemming from their misconduct.

Fortunately, there's a bill to help fix this: the CURB Act. Unfortunately, it's languishing at City Council, because Public Safety Chair Oswald Feliz won't schedule the bill for a hearing, and the Council can't vote on a bill without one. Comment "CURB" to take action now. by @peoplesplannyc

NYC’s richest second-home owners are furious 😤

The city just started taxing luxury second homes worth $5M+, and it could bring in $500M a year.

Now they’re suing, calling the tax unconstitutional. A separate lawsuit over the rollout forced the city to redo it (the city is appealing).

This isn’t just about NYC, this is about the rich protecting the rich from even the smallest amount of taxation! by @peoplesplannyc

Safety starts with listening to Deliveristas ✊

We need safer streets, but not at the expense of the workers who keep this city moving. No unnecessary NYPD interactions, no bike confiscations, no unjust app deactivations

And we sure as hell shouldn’t be trusting billion-dollar delivery apps to police the workers they already exploit! by @peoplesplannyc

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH🚨

Year after year NYPD budgets $400–500M for overtime, then watches it balloon toward $1 BILLION

While every other city agency is being told to cut back, NYPD needs to address its OT problem 🚨
