🏘️ POTRERO POWER PLANT REDEVELOPMENT: WHO IS THIS NEIGHBORHOOD FOR? | PART 3

I walked through the new Potrero Power Plant development, saw the history displayed inside its lobby, and looked around at the neighborhood taking shape.

One thing stood out to me: I saw surprisingly few Black residents out and about in this new development.

That observation is not a demographic study, and it cannot tell us who lives here based on a single visit. But it raises a serious question for District 10:

If a development is partly framed as an opportunity to repair historic environmental harms, how do we ensure the Black community actually benefits?

🏘️ Can working-class Black families afford to live here?

💰 Are longtime District 10 residents benefiting from the economic opportunities created by redevelopment?

✊🏾 Is the Black community meaningfully involved in decisions about the neighborhood’s future?

🎭 Will Black culture, local businesses, and community institutions remain part of this waterfront’s identity?

🌱 And are environmental health and remediation concerns being addressed transparently?

District 10 deserves development that does more than transform the skyline. We deserve investment that creates real opportunity, protects public health, and preserves the cultural vibrancy of our diverse communities.

I want to see a future where Black families, working people, and longtime residents are not merely remembered in a lobby mural, but welcomed as residents, business owners, workers, and decision-makers.

The question isn’t just what we’re building. It’s who we’re building it for.

As a candidate for District 10 Supervisor, I’m committed to asking these questions and advocating for community-centered development that delivers measurable benefits to the people who have called this district home.

What do YOU think meaningful community reparations should look like at the Potrero Power Plant site? Let’s talk in the comments.
