6 hours agoReposting something I commented elsewhere: Society needs to stop imagining the ideal DV perp in their minds. I'm so sick of hearing "He's such a nice guy". "I never would have known". "He's just a normal guy". The ideal DV perp doesn't exist. ANYONE can perpetrate violence against women. It doesn't matter about their social demographic, age, looks, education, salary, level of alcohol or drug use, lack of criminal record or standing in the community. Stop picturing some cracked out, tatted up criminal wearing a white singlet who beats women. DV perpetrators are charming, manipulative and often very likeable. That's how they attract their victims and that's how they hide in plain sight.
a day agoSo true and he needs to go to jail and be held responsible for what he’s done and show the rest of Australian men this will happen to you too enough is enough
a day agoSam Woods needs to understand the concepts of truth and justice…😢 His lawyer should also be ashamed of himself….’yes, we know he’s a lawyer, yes, we know the definition of his job’…. BUT…..🤢
a day agoI don’t think this is correct. He was denied bail last week and his attorney was going to apply to the Supreme Court but this has not yet happened.
2 days agoProfessional that worked in DV space for 5 years: The victims chance of having a stroke caused by the irreversible vascular damage caused by non-fatal strangulation is drastically increased for the next weeks, and remains heightened over their lifetime. Maybe if courts weighed this properly, we’d have less of these creeps let off.
2 days agoThe lawyer dared to say there weren’t enough photos of her neck !!! This after paramedics also confirmed markings on her neck. Also reported to have said his client’s reputationI had taken a bashing… what a choice of words. know you have to defend your client but where is the moral compass here. @victorian_government what’s happening with Victorian laws and strangulation? Have our laws been updated like Queenslands were?
2 days agoAs an older person, when you learn to read faces and mannerisms, you can clearly tell that Sam Wood is NOT a good man. You can see the person for who he is. When you listen, you can hear the manipulation. He's a bad penny in every way. I hope he gets a long sentence.
2 days agoI work in health in brain injury rehab. Women (or anyone for that matter) who are subjected to strangulation, are highly likely to suffer brain injury from these assaults. Multiple episodes of injury are cumulative and impact their function for life.
2 days agoNot all men understand boundaries. Teenage boys, what do they understand? I only learned about this after my divorce at the age of 48. Men who don’t understand or respect boundaries must be more susceptible to physical harm to others as their frustration levels go unchecked. Educate to help prevent physical harm to others.
2 days agoThis is great that they're doing this for Snez and taking the threats to her life seriously. But why aren't they doing that for all other women? My daughter was also one that was strangled and suffocated until she was nearly dead. He intentionally tried to kill her and was caught in the act. But he was let out on Bail that day and never spent a night behind Bars. Was her life less important just like all the other women out there who are not well known? I don't blame Snez for this, before anyone comes at me...I blame the system.
