This video actually supports the argument that women should throw to a 10-foot target, just like men.
We traditionally scale loading by roughly 30% for women, and the numbers here align with that approach.

The funny thing is, I almost didn’t post this because I don’t necessarily agree with the conclusion. 😂

Here’s what this analysis doesn’t account for:
The velocity and acceleration of the ball.
Zoe releases earlier than me, her ball spends more time in the air. Her ball is projected farther through the air which requires more energy to do so.

This is one possible explanation for why Colten Mertens was able to outperform Jayson Hopper during the 26.1 CrossFit Open announcement.

Colten’s ability to launch the ball earlier and begin his next repetition may have given him an advantage over an athlete spending more time squatting with the ball. Like a tall athlete (Hopper)

Compound those small differences over 100+ repetitions, and they can create a substantial difference in total workout time.

Her ball is 14 pound-mass and his is 20 pound-mass. The actual force applied would be different because the balls have different fall times and distances thus different speeds when they make contact with the balls. This means theres more variables going into how much force they put in to counteract the falling velocity

Why are you measuring the distance from the bottom of the squat? Shouldn’t it be measured from the top with the arms extended? His length to the tip of his hands with arms extended looks at least a foot longer than hers. So it would justify a 1ft target difference. And men’s strength compared to women’s justifies the ball weight, right? Genuine question

Thank you. Been telling the short CrossFit kings this for years. Yes I am row more easily than you king. That's about it. Also put a 60 lbs weight vest on and do the wods then get back to me.

i think you proved its correct programming.

CrossFit should be measured by, Weight moved x Distance = power output.

Add in the body weight.

Draw a squat to stand depth line as well

Where one has an advantage the other has a disadvantage so it really comes down to capacity and turnover time

Once the ball leaves your hands only gravity is doing “work” on the ball

At first, I was starting to wonder if you changed your mind 😂

Looks like about 70% to me, which I believe is the way to program men to women ratios. I think you probed it’s the correct option not the other way around. And I think it’s only 28ish % more work. . . Based on your numbers

You’re using a 5’5” dude. What about a 5’10” guy? He still may be doing more but that’s probably from the extra ball weight. How about us short guys vs tall guys. That 20 lb ball to a 10 ft target is a lot.

Ask her how she felt doing 20# to 10'! I had to do that at Koda, RX 55+ is 20# 9' - that extra foot for a shorter athlete was brutal

She’s jumping and using more force to get the ball to the target due to her height. She’s definitely working just as hard.
