AFT Massachusetts

What a pleasure to join legislative leaders, school district, union, state and community partners to recognize the tremendous work being done at Mattahunt Elementary School and celebrate the role Hub Schools play in lifting up the children and families of Boston.

Hub schools, also known as Community Schools, provide a network of community-based support and services inside and outside of the classroom, bringing together educators, community members, families, and students to strengthen conditions for student learning and healthy development. Students and their families get the resources they need to thrive: from ESOL education for parents, to access to food and clothing pantries, to year-round extracurricular programming, on-site health clinics, and so much more.

Thank you to the amazing @bostonteachersunion educators who make the Mattahunt such a special school, and to all the legislators who joined us today—we look forward to working with you to bring more community schools to the Commonwealth.
