After a lot of time in my inbox as UGC creator, here’s what I look for when looking through my emails 🚩
🟢 Green flags
• They use your name and mention your actual content
• Clear brief, deliverables and timeline upfront
• They share their budget (or ask for your rates)
• Usage rights are spelled out
• The brief has a «don’ts» list, so you know exactly what they need
• They mention a kill fee if the project gets cancelled
• A contract before any work starts provided on their end, or that they’re happy to sign one provided by you
🔴 Red flags
• «We’ll send free product in exchange for…» with no pay. Which in my opinion is only ok when you first start out to gain experience
• Asking for unlimited or perpetual usage rights without being ready to pay what it’s worth
• Pushing you to buy the product first
• Vague brief, endless revisions, no contract
• Sent from an email address that doesn’t match the brand’s website
• Asking for any final or raw footage «for review» without watermark before payment is made
• Whitelisting, Spark codes or exclusivity slipped in without extra pay
• Rights to use your face or voice for AI-generated content
• «easy to create» bulk packages of content that work out at £20 a video 🫨
• Pay-per-view deals with no base rate, so you do all the work and only get paid if it goes viral
Any time I get an email through now that has any red flags immediately goes into my bin.
The audacity sometimes 🤦♀️😂
A good brand will always respect and recognise that your content has value ✨
The best way to spot a red flag? Know what a green one looks like on paper 📝
Grab my contract template, the same one I use with my own brand clients who are happy to sign ✨
