Just found this painting from 2020 when I unfurled a roll in storage looking for something else. It’s so different from what I’ve been working on lately and I found myself really taken in by its peace and balance. I titled it Prayer back then which still feels right. Pieces of collage with Japanese paper and ink, little scraps of my daughter’s messages and journal pages blend into the mysterious atmosphere.
Acrylic, collage, ink, graphite on canvas. I need to get it stretched but it will measure around 52x50”

Casey: I like to use like, dating apps just to be able to like, screen men, and also to be able to let them know that I am a trans woman. And whenever I was speaking with him I was like, "Oh, like, he's too good to be true, so let me go ahead and just drop this bomb on him *laughing* and see how he takes it." And like, he just took it so well. He was just very like, comforting and compassionate, and I immediately gave him my number and then we just started texting. I still took a while to meet him 'cause it's so scary.
Idris: A couple of months, what?
Casey: *laughing* Like three months.
Idris: She put her boundaries up and I had to respect them. Finally when I got into her presence, after that– I'm here now. I'm not going anywhere.
Casey: We were just kind of just coasting, getting to know one another, and just spending quality time. He didn't even ask me to be his girlfriend. I just heard him on the phone and he said "girlfriend."
Idris: Yeah.
Casey: And I was like,
Idris: Yeah. That– that was...
Casey: I'm your girlfriend now?
Idris: Yeah.
Casey: *chuckling*
Idris: I remember now. I remember, yeah. That was a pivotal moment.](https://s3.imginn.com/864869118_17907965316670243_3520124568888950670_n.jpg?t51.82787-15/864869118_17907965316670243_3520124568888950670_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_e35_p720x720_sh2.08_tt6&_nc_cat=101&ig_cache_key=NDAyMDE3NDAzMTE1NDQ0MTg5Mw%3D%3D.3-ccb7-5&ccb=7-5&_nc_sid=58cdad&efg=eyJ2ZW5jb2RlX3RhZyI6IkNMSVBTLnhwaWRzLjEwODAuc2RyLnZpZGVvX2RlZmF1bHRfY292ZXJfZnJhbWUuQzMifQ%3D%3D&_nc_ohc=yMk8mzjJQbEQ7kNvwHTOkug&_nc_oc=AdrYLuz0EN39WYsZCwmaOlobau_o5_7ah3xo4gleuFBDUOveo8t3O092RWbS9BF77IMAnjHrRrX-b5bA-VFuoA5x&_nc_zt=23&_nc_ht=scontent-iad3-1.cdninstagram.com&_nc_gid=nr09vlSk-TMmqzYElwwWvQ&_nc_ss=70580&oh=00_AQSgg-2tlW3NOmrK_17aDmmd104WXWrFIUPQqIukDx5Vqw&oe=6AEDCAA9)
