I’d spent 13 years building a brokerage. It was profitable, it was mine, and it worked. Then I stood in front of my agents and asked them to walk away from it with me.
We’d be joining a company almost nobody had heard of, with a story that hadn’t been written yet.
It was the scariest meeting of my career.
Day one was better for every one of my agents: better tech, a bigger network, real coaching, real ownership. For me, year one hurt. The money we used to make as owners was gone, and the costs took time to unwind.
Then it caught fire.
Then Real became home.
Then the market pushed back and tested all of us. It reminded us that the stock was never the point. The people were. Work hard, be kind, we is bigger than me.
Five years later, Redline has been the #1 team in Canada at Real five years straight.
And the little nobody from 2021 just agreed to buy RE/MAX.
I won’t pretend this industry is easy right now. The pressure on agents has never been higher, and AI and the economy have everyone guessing.
But I’ve never been more sure we’re exactly where we need to be.
45 years old. 22 years in. Still a kid in a candy store.
To every agent who took that leap with me: thank you. You made the bet worth it.
