Lisbon was amazing and that was very much down to the company! 92/100 The Weight by The Band feat. The Staple Singers

What's annoyed you today? For me, apart from my printer ink running out and having to add the text digitally to the collage which looks rubbish - it was going through the lyrics to this fantastic version of the song on Spotify to see that all the men are credited by name as their solos come into view but Mavis Staple, whose voice is one of the most incredible on earth, only gets ‘female singer’ when it's her turn. Female singer?! She could female sing the shit out of any of them. And breathe.

In a tenuous link to justify today's song choice, I'm off to Lisbon to take the weight off. We are a woman down and will miss her loads but swear we will take the weight off her another time. A lot of heavy lifting for us this year ❤️

91/100 Lost Weekend by Lloyd Cole and the Commotions

Bob Dylan, using his powers for good in this project at last. Still sticking with the 80s but there will be a mix of songs in this final push to the finish. I am going to need a lost weekend in a hotel in Amsterdam by then for sure.

90/100 Pearly Dewdrop's Drops by Cocteau Twins

Want to know why there is only the title on this collage? I think anyone who is familiar with the Cocteau Twins will understand my dilemma. I went through at least 6 different lyric sites and no one has a fucking clue what Liz is singing about. A spider called Roddy and some loose change she lost down the back of the sofa or something.

Taken from their 1984 EP The Spangle Maker which is an ode to their favourite school tuck shop treat. Well it would make as much sense as anything else they did wouldn't it? Lovely though.

Day 90 - finish line in sight.

89/100 Early Blue by F J McMahon

I let Spotify choose today's song and I think it felt my vibe 😅

McMahon's only album Spirit Of The Golden Juice was released in 1969 on a small Los Angeles based label, Accent Records. Only about 2,000 copies were pressed and it was widely ignored until more recently.

In a 2014 interview, McMahon described Early Blue as being about “not wanting to face the day but knowing you should, and when you finally do, things usually turn out ok.” Phew.

I'm off to see the wonderful Bill Callahan tonight, the day will definitely turn out well.

88/100 There's A Guy Works Down The Chip Shop Swears He's Elvis by Kirsty MacColl

I love Kirsty MacColl, her death is still shocking to me. I also love this collage, it was a lot of fun.

We were really lucky growing up where we did, it was a 15 minute neighbourhood before that was even a thing. We lived in Lower Penwortham, my mum was everyone's health visitor and everything was on our doorstep. Hairdresser, newsagent, doctor, Spar, youth club, two parks, school, two pubs, all our friends, occasional flasher, handful of bad kids.

And of course a chippy. Not just any chippy - Godwin's was tiny but award winning with long weekend queues and is still going strong. I last went when mum was still in her own home and we watched Corrie and shared fish and chips. Curry sauce natch.

I was telling McMillan the other day that Easy Jim was born in Leamington Spa and for at least the first 10 years of my life I just presumed but never questioned that he'd been born in a local corner shop. Idiot.

No chat today because I have more birthday plans and also just have no chat today so over to Mike..

86/100 Our Lips Are Sealed by The Go-Go’s

It was my 60th last Monday so very little work has been done or art made and I still have 51 weeks of celebrating to go because I don't know about you but I think I've earned a full year of fun times.

Luckily I don't have 51 more colleges to make because it turns out doing a project revolving around someone you love who has died just isn't the fun it sounds - who knew??? Gotta keep going though and the songs are still swirling around our teenage life…

Go-Go's guitarist Jane Wiedlin wrote this with Terry Hall of The Specials. Hall later released it with his band Fun Boy Three but I've added the Go-Go’s version to the playlist because singer Belinda Carlisle was also a big part of those years. Calm down...

85/100 Teenage Kicks by the Undertones

I'm pretty sure this has been in every one of my ten 100 days projects! The first single that made its way from Easy Jim's vinyl stash to my bedroom, never to be seen by him again.

Famously loved by John Peel who played it twice in a row when he first had it on his show, it is two minutes of total joy, has banging syncopated clapping opportunities in the break and almost 50 years on would still be my desert island disc.

83/100 Blue In Green by Bill Evans Trio

Jazz. Nice. I just don't think I'm sophisticated enough to be a jazz fan although I'm all in with the clothes 👌

I think I have an issue with all instrumental music which obvs is a problem here. If I can't drunkenly jump up and down on the spot with my mates while screeching out the lyrics then is it really music? Does it really exist?

Well yes it does. Last night we went to see Everybody Digs Bill Evans. It was a bleak but incredibly beautifully shot film. Did I mention it was bleak? I truly loved it and since Easy Jim was a big jazz fan and this is often how the project works, today I bring you this. I played Bill's work while I glued and I kinda get it and because there are no lyrics, I left in some of the paint names from the swatches. I bet if you Google them they are actual jazz classics. Omg, have you cats heard Scuba In Aruba? It'll blow your mind man.

82/100 Temptation by New Order

One of the band’s favourite songs, they would often play it at the end of gigs and just leave an unmanned sequencer and drum machine running and go without telling the audience. Legends.

Temptation is a brilliant dance song and filled many a Preston club floor. There have been new murals painted on empty shops there recently showing all the things the city is famous for and both Clouds where we danced and saw bands and the Warehouse/Raiders where we worked (still my best job ever) are featured. We were so lucky growing up there - moving from packed youth clubs to proper nights.

The yoof need outlets to channel their energy - you only have to spend your day dodging illegal bikes to know that's not happening anymore. Easy Jim set up a lot of local clubs that we didn't know about until after he'd gone because he got the ego free gene. Small acts done with heart.

I wish I could do a @stevie_cavana_art and say how I'm feeling today, not like me to undershare but also this year isn't about me apparently 😅
