Very fabulous evening @fringebythesea to see @belleandsebastian Lovely to catch up with these gorgeous women. 30 years since this album. What???? The best looking girls are NOT staying inside. Thanks so much @leighvbradley 😘😘😘 #fringebythesea There was also much drama involving being locked in Waverley at 1am and feeling like a small child/being in an Avengers film 😉

What £20.00 Buys You From a Maker 🧡

We often think, “It’s only £20.00” But to a small business, and to the person buying something handmade, it can mean so much more.

Some of my favourite things in my home cost around £20.00, or less - a gorgeous Ceramic Mug, I use every morning, a Plant Pot Pal that always makes me smile, a Wild Munro diffuser, my home smells incredible and Scottish soaps that are perfect for getting off stubborn garden grit and also perfect for Arlo’s sensitive skin.

Behind every purchase is a real person, hours of craftsmanship and a whole lot of heart.

Next time you’ve got £20.00 to spend, choose a maker. I promise it’ll go further than you think. 🧡

✨ Read the full blog now on our website and discover why every small purchase makes a big difference.
📣 Makers, if you sell something for £20.00 or less, pop it in the comments! We’d love to see what you’ve created and inspire others to shop small.

THE SUBVERSIVE STITCHER
Matriarchy Forever
Silk, linen and vintage buttons
31.5cm x 31.5cm
£275

I was thinking about faraway places where we can find solace and a momentary calm. But then l thought about how we are always carrying our thoughts with us regardless of location.

Then l thought about how all of my female friendships have supported me through difficult times, so l wanted to create a piece that paid homage to those moments in the style of a Sweetheart Pin Cushion.

Matriarchy Forever is a celebration of being in the company of other women and where l feel safe to be myself, breathe freely and feel comforted by their presence.

TRACY WATT
Quelling The Swan
Pen on Fabriano 300gm watercolour paper
17cm x 23cm
£100

Quelling the Swan is a severing of self from current and past toxicity. The swan has always been a symbolic element through my art after researching the Renaissance and use of narrative within paintings. Drawn to the Leda and the swan theme. Set within the plight of womanhood and societal and domestic inequalities and abuse. Quelling the swan is an attempt to reclaim a sense of self away from the lies, manipulation and horror that we consume every day.

GILL ELLIOTT FREEMAN
Warring Angels
Textiles
65cm x 90cm
£NFS

“Warring Angels” is about how the conflicts of war impacts on the innocents of the world, who by no fault of their own are drawn in, resulting in severe mental trauma and psychological damage. War is something which the human race, sadly, revisit all too often without seemingly having learnt any lessons from previous conflicts. The result of war is not only wide spread environment destruction, but also famine, and the displacement of people. This in turn can lead to fear and mistrust which can be passed down to future generations, resulting in a continuum of events. I don’t believe there is an exhale during war, only perhaps once it’s over, for those fortunate to still be alive.

TINA ROBERTSON
‘Away with the Fairies’
Acrylic and a touch of soft pastel
30cm x 40cm
SOLD 🔴

My painting, ‘Away with the Fairies’, depicts me zoning out of the current sh##show of a world. I have to find moments of calm whether it be through talking to my kids, painting and looking at art, music, my animals or nature. I fear I will go mad if I don’t.

The levels of universal hatred, racism, misogyny, war, genocide, violence and intolerance are unprecedented and for me, as a mixed race woman, unbearable.

I therefore find my moments of calm whenever I can.

PAPERCUT PUNK
Sleep On The Left Side Keep The Sword Hand Free
Papercut
29.5cm x 21cm
SOLD 🔴

The title of this piece comes from Sleep On The Left Side by Cornershop - a lyric that has always resonated with me. I often sing it to my dog who softly snores, eyes half closed, one ear cocked. Wearily watchful.

Sleep quality is very indicative of how life is going and although right now I am somehow sleeping for previously undreamt of hours, I am guardedly relaxed. Waiting to exhale. Right hand free.

Mention of: Long Term Consequences of Illness

STACEY COUGHLIN
Pacing the Floorboards
Mixed media sculpture and written text
15cm x 15cm x 17cm
£NFS

Pacing the floorboards
Worn underfoot with the miles
That has led to nothing
But the weight of wasted time, of squandered chances,
Of mislaid hope.

Age should not make you silent,
But somehow it takes you,
And your echoes.
Wisdom should not make you disappear,
Yet you become diaphanous glass.

While you rest, time curls round you.
Steeling your view, your space,
Your existence.
Cocooning you with the heaviness of questions
The space left within, airless, unreachable, impenetrable.

Weathered by so many stormy waves,
You are not sure where the shore is anymore
Silenced within the placating thunder
Screaming so loud no one can hear you
With the weight of the pain.

Loss plucks at the silken net,
Our web of support shattered further
Each time a thread is lost.
Now we carry their weight,
Left with the memory of mislaid hope.
Left to make sense of defective lives.

We are the sum of our experiences,
But these should not define us.
We do what others won’t;
Look after ourselves
Nurture, hold, and sit in wonder
Marvelling at our unique expression.

~~~
This is not just one story, it is the same worn story, retold with many women I know, have known, and have met through talking and bearing witness to through my vocation.
My childhood ended with my Mum’s delayed and, in the end, completely inadvertent diagnosis 30 years ago, and all our family has been living with the consequences since.
Through personal experience since then, I honestly don’t know what has changed. In December 2025, we lost two defiantly individualistic women close to our hearts, both with the same narrative of being kept quiet, not listened to, and ultimately paying the price.
But I don’t want the anger to live on; that then sits within our bodies too. I want to make sense of what I can, and with what little energy we all have left, - live, love, and improve what we can.
