The now elusive Squamish snow day. 🏔️

Somehow it has become tradition to do a loop around town when the first big snowfall of the year hits.
(Despite me being a whiny baby when cold and wet.)

Cruising the valley trails, that we’ve done so many times, take on a totally different feel with the thick winter blanket. Quiet. Slippery. Ready for a coffee.

❄️ February ski camp ❄️

Great days, exploring straight from camp, with great turns right to the tent door.
So grateful to be able to spend time in the mountains like this.

There are so many great places to ski in the world, but the Coast Range, and even these mountains so close to home are incredible and hard to beat.

Once you get out of the tent, fire up the stove for the first coffee, work your way into frozen ski boots, it’s not far to be skiing long shots of Old-Growth, or out in the Alpine getting funky.

One of those perfect timing moments, the right place at the right time.

We were finishing up some work with @sonnietrotter yesterday, when he noticed a couple of climbers over on his route “The Power Of Yesterday”.

In all his years spent on this part of the wall, he’d never seen anyone on it. At 13c and high on the chief, it’s a stout 4 pitches, so it was great to witness someone on it!

Oliver from Germany doesn’t have Instagram, but here he is on the last pitch.

@rosspaulmailloux used the term
“Feeling wintry out there” this morning, which means it’s time a for a storm skiing photo.
The best kind of skiing there is, mid-winter, costal storming.

High alpine in running shoes out on the Neve in summer!

Always interesting to see a place in summer that you usually only visit on skis.

A lot different than when @alyciadixon_ and I did the Neve traverse for the first time in a February snow storm 😆

A proper island visit before the summer shuffles off into the welcome heaviness of the coastal shoulder season.

Even though Squamish is right on the ocean, we spend so much of our spare time up in the mountains, it doesn’t always feel like it. These trips are welcome reminder of the awesome beauty our corner of the world has to offer.

And an unwelcome reminder on how hard I find it to get into a wetsuit.

Digital postcards incoming 🇮🇹
Remember postcards?

@alyciadixon_ and I were lucky enough recently to spend some days, with little packs, open minds, and stomachs, running parts of the Tour De Monte Rosa in the Italian Alps.

A highly recommend area, of relative calm crowds this time of year, wonderful food and people, and rich history.

Days fuelled entirely by prosciutto and espresso, and trails crowded mostly by grazing livestock.

I have too many photos to share so I’ll start with this handful. 🤌

Not the usual customers out there in the mountains.

@alyciadixon_ descending from Colle de Rothorn, after a day of many metres, en route to our first stay at Rifugio GB Ferraro, a wonderful hut built on an old agricultural building dating back to 1721!

The water was flowing after some rainy weeks!
I of course forgot our water filter at home.

Trail markers of the Monte Rosa trail and others.

@alyciadixon_ reminding me I should stretch.
