A thing I’m working on is Chinese style tea cups for a set. These are two prototypes, I think they’re both good. White one maybe less good for tea bit wide I dunno. Ciao! by @paul.schmertmann

A few glaze tests out of the kiln today. Pretty happy with them and with the shape of the bowls too. Might try with a darker clay for the red one hmm. Ciao! by @paul.schmertmann

Wish I was there (two works in progress 🤘)

These haven’t been fired. Thinking maybe some gold somewhere on the egyptian-y one 🤔 by @paul.schmertmann

This is a commission piece for a friend who wanted a frilly fruit bowl 🍊🍎🍌

It may be impossible to wheel throw this shape? It has to be wet to do the frills, and it so desperately wants to collapse. It took many attempts and my wife's help devising a mould. It now exists and will hold some fruit.

I may sell this design, so if you follow my @lightskyblue.ceramics account you may see it again there 👍

Another round of glaze tests today. The first three are increasing iron amounts in a matte white glaze, followed by an interesting variegated blue.

I’ve been developing this glaze for months, it’s a clear crackle to go over iron oxide paint. The latest one is looking cool, but I can’t decide whether I like how it eats up small bits of the paint. Is it neat extra detail vs splotchy and yellow, etc. If you have ideas do tell ✌️

My first post here was a work-in-progress snap of this vase. It's now been fired and I wanted to post the professional photo (@fatografi_insta).

I have a thing called aphantasia, which means I don't see mental images. I make things by letting my hands roam freely, then refining the result until it feels 'true'. This one is a bit of a mystery, but I like it and it's the most exact I've been to date in executing a design on a pot.

This is a stoneware vase with iron oxide brushtrokes. I glazed the exterior at first, but decided to remove it. Traces of glaze remained in the paint and shifted the colour from a dark maroon to this earthy brown.

This is a large stoneware vase with a red iron glaze. The little drips are different cobalt tests I've accumulated, all of which took on a black hue.

This is the largest thing I've made to date and I think it looks pretty cool.

Shout out to @fatografi_insta for the excellent pics.

None of these glazes did what I wanted! These are celadon and shino glazes with silicon carbide giving a localised reduction effect — I used hardly any and it still did this (v frothy) 😳 onward and upward 🤘

Ever since I started pottery, I've made little milk jugs for my mother-in-law who uses them with her coffee. This is the third and was done to her sketch. The glazes are a stable white liner and a marginally-fluid blue that reacts with it slightly.
