🔥ARTIST PROFILE SHELF LIFE EXHIBITION🔥 PAUL LEE SCHMERTMANN @paul.schmertmann I am what I have read 25 x 19 x 19cm Paul Lee Schmertmann is an emerging potter who started his practise three years ago. Driven by a fascination with handwork and natural raw materials, he strives to make classical forms that draw inspiration from the diverse pottery traditions that have existed throughout Earth’s history. This piece presents the vessel as a metaphor for the self, containing a lifetime’s worth of accumulated knowledge and perspectives drawn from literature. The use of black and white frames these perspectives we carry within us as having both a conscious and unconscious influence. The piece is displayed on a recycled wood platform that Paul made. Paul hopes to create art that shows a relationship between opposing forces – reason and intuition, diligence/lackadaisicalness, order/chaos etc. Having set out simply to become a skilled craftsman, this theme has gradually come to be more and more clearly expressed in his work. Exhibition open now until Saturday October 18 at @smsa_1833 during @sydneycraftweek We can’t wait to see you there! #ceramics #sydneyceramics #artexhibition #sydneycraftweek2025 #sydneyartexhibition
