Pedal powered projects for pedal powered people in Norwich. Part of @wastesmiths 🚲💚🌍
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Pedal Powered Projects is a part of the @wastesmiths family, and it feels like it’s found its home at @st_saviours_yard. We’re not exactly sure how Pedal Powered Projects will develop over the coming year, but we can share some of the things that will guide its path.

Over the last 6 months the project has supported Wastesmiths with a commission for the Norfolk & Norwich Festival and established monthly Dr Bikes supported by @wearecyclinguk to offer free bike repairs.

The project is led be a bike mechanic with over 25 years of experience, including a history of working in some of the busiest bike shops in the country. In September the project plans to pilot a Bike Kitchen at St Saviours Yard on Thursday 10th September from 6pm until 8pm and a group ride later in the month.

The next Dr Bike at St Saviours Yard is on Saturday 26th September. If you can’t wait that long, we’ll be at the @thecommonlotnc Galley Hill Dash on Saturday 19th September 🚲💚🌍 taken in St Saviours Yard by @pedalpoweredprojects

Our bicycle related offer here at @wastesmiths is going to have a slightly different flavour for 2026, now that we have a base in Norwich at @st_saviours_yard.

We’ll still be planning regular Dr Bikes offering free basic repairs thanks to Cycling UK funding. In fact, the first one is on Saturday 23rd May from 10am until 1pm. These Dr Bikes work on a first come first served basis, and the cool thing about offering free basic bike repairs at St Saviours Yard is that while you’re waiting for your bicycle to be fixed you can enjoy fabulous pizza from @eastdough, extraordinary buns from @sod.bakery, fancy beers from @sir_tobys_nr3 and zero-waste shopping at @allplanetkind. If you’d like to make a day of it we have a Hack Your Wardrobe session in the afternoon supporting you to add pockets to pocketless garments.

Okay, back to what our broader bicycle shaped shenanigans look like in 2026. We’ve been conscious for a while that bikes are a fabulous resource of components for so many more of our projects. We’ve seen pedal powered sewing machines that could be interesting for our @wewearthetrousers collective, and we’ve seen pedal powered shredders that would be so useful for our @preciousplasticeast project. Now that we have a Norwich base we’re keen to more actively explore some of these pedal powered builds.

Given this new vision for this area of our work, the My Bike Repair name didn’t really fit anymore, so we’re now going to do bike stuff under @pedalpoweredprojects. Right on cue the Norfolk & Norwich Festival asked us to build a hanging installation, and a bicycle rim seemed like the perfect structure for it. So our Great Yarmouth @make_grow_mend group helped us build a piece of art suspended from a bit of a bicycle. We’re launching a Norwich @make_grow_mend group this month that may get involved with some of the pedal powered builds. So come along if you’re curious.

Get in touch for more information or come see us on Saturday 23rd May between 10am and 1pm at St Saviours Yard 🌍💚🚲

The best weeks of October are still ahead of us, as we approach the halfway point in the month. We still have two things to offer you if you need a free bike repair or you fancy a completely new experience on your bike.

On October 24th we’ll be offering our last monthly pop-up Dr Bike at @st_saviours_yard before we make a few changes to what we offer for the winter. Find this offer of free repairs at the south end of the Yard behind St Saviours Church.

Our mechanic has over 25 years of industry experience. Over the last few months we have replaced brake blocks, replaced cables, adjusted gears and brakes, fixed punctures, adjusted mudguards and even serviced bearings for free for people like you. No matter how rusty or rattly your bike is, you’re very welcome to bring it down. We’ll repair everything that we can, and can give you advice about the rest.

Then on Thursday 22nd October we’re going to do an unusual late afternoon Dr Bike/Bike Kitchen to make sure nobody misses out on the annual Glow Ride!

We wouldn’t want anyone to miss out on the opportunity to experience the feeling of riding in a group. This Dr Bike/Bike Kitchen will be an opportunity to get your bike fixed so it’s ready for a 45 minute illuminated roll through the city, and it will also be an opportunity to get your lights attached and checked by a mechanic to ensure they’re safe.

So basically we’re going to pop up behind St Saviours Church next to St Saviours Lane at 3.30pm on Thursday 22nd October and then we can ride as a group to the start at City Hall at 6pm. We’re really excited to be a part of this years Glow Ride and particularly excited that the after party is at @st_saviours_yard. It’ll be a great place to finish and enjoy what @sir_tobys_nr3, @mounehkitchen, @sod.bakery and other traders have to offer. See on 22nd for some pedal powered fun 💡🚲♻️💚🌍 taken in St Saviours Yard by @pedalpoweredprojects

It’s two weeks this week until the Glow Ride takes place in Norwich and we’ll be @st_saviours_yard to help you get ready on the day.

We’ll be popping up from 3.30pm until 5.30pm behind St Saviours Church to help you get your bike ready…. whether that’s a bike repair or getting your steed illuminated.

We’re able to offer any repairs and assistance for free thanks to support from the wonderful @wearecyclinguk. We look forward to seeing you on Thursday 22nd October 💡🚲💚🌍 taken in St Saviours Yard by @pedalpoweredprojects

Anyone who’s gotten excited for big group bike rides after seeing clips of @dom_whiting in Norwich at the weekend should pop the Glow Ride in their diary. Norwich’s Glow Ride will be its own vibe, watching the sun set with illuminated bikes on mass ambling through the city. Our guess is it will be smaller than Sunday, but genuinely who knows. Maybe people will have caught the mass ride bug and will be counting the days until 22nd October.

If you have never ridden in a large group that creates a traffic free environment then it comes highly recommended! We wouldn’t want anyone to miss out on the opportunity to experience this feeling and so we’re going to offer a Dr Bike/Bike Kitchen just before the Glow Ride starts on Thursday 22nd October. It’ll be an opportunity to get your bike fixed so it’s ready for a 45 minute roll through the city, and it will also be an opportunity to get your illuminations and lights attached and checked by a mechanic to ensure they’re safe.

We’re going to pop up behind St Saviours Church next to St Saviours Lane at 3.30pm on Thursday 22nd October and then we can ride as a group to the start at City Hall at 6pm. We’re really excited to be a part of this years Glow Ride and particularly excited that the after party is at @st_saviours_yard. @wastesmiths is going to be popping-up at Apple Day at @gressenhall_fw on Sunday with a small range of one off over-printed sweatshirts for sale. We couldn’t resist sharing this one. Can’t imagine why.

If you fancy a family day out on Sunday then Apple Day comes highly recommend!

If you can’t make it to Gressenhall on Sunday, we’ll bring any remaining stock to @st_saviours_yard on Saturday 10th October for anyone who fancies a browse during Mend With Friends ♻️💚🌍

October 24th will be your last opportunity to get a free bike repair from our pop-up Dr Bike at @st_saviours_yard before we make a few changes to what we offer for the winter. Find us at the south end of the Yard behind St Saviours Church.

We work on a first come, first served basis so getting to us early is recommended, and while you’re waiting for your repair to be carried out there are loads of things to browse and consume at St Saviours Yard. Everything from great food and drink offers from @sod.bakery, @mounehkitchen and @eastdough through to zero waste shopping at @allplanetkind or something more unique like @thriftless.studio where they’ll take an extraordinary portrait of you.

Our free bike repairs have been made possible by the fabulous @wearecyclinguk. We’re hugely grateful for their support. See you in October ♻️💚🌍 taken in St Saviours Yard by @pedalpoweredprojects

Our next @wastesmiths pop-up Dr Bike will be offering free basic repairs again on Saturday 26th September from 10am until 1pm. The awesome news is that there’s a whole bunch of new things to go check out while you’re waiting for your bike to receive its TLC.

One of the most exciting new additions is @mounehkitchen offering extraordinary Palestinian food. If you’re looking for something different then @thriftless.studio will take a unique portrait of you using an incredible camera constructed by Adam. It’s an intriguing journey with a beautiful memento at the end.

Then of course there are all the @st_saviours_yard staples like @sod.bakery, @sir_tobys_nr3, and @allplanetkind. You’re unlikely to get bored while you’re waiting for your bike.

Huge thanks to @wearecyclinguk for the support that allows us to offer this service. If you’re bringing your bike to be fixed then get there at the start of the session. We offer repairs on a first come first served basis. No matter how rusty or rattly your bike is, bring it along. All we’ll ask in return for the repair is an email address for our funder.

See you on Saturday 26th September 🚲💚🌍 taken in St Saviours Yard by @pedalpoweredprojects

We’ve got a busy month ahead of free cycling support. It all starts this evening with an experiment, our first outdoor Bike Kitchen pilot at @st_saviours_yard from 6pm until 8pm. A Bike Kitchen is an opportunity to get free support to fix your own bike, rather than have someone else fix it for you. You’ll get access to tools and the support of an experienced mechanic.

Our regular monthly Dr Bike at St Saviours Yard is on Saturday 26th September from 10am until 1pm. This is an opportunity to get a free bike repair in a great spot for browsing while you wait to get your bike back. St Saviours Yard has some delicious food and drink offers as well as a whole range of traders to visit.

Finally we have a special Dr Bike at the wonderful Galley Hill Dash on Saturday 19th September from 10am until 1pm. We’re excited to be bringing free bike repairs back to Mile Cross and such a great event with @thecommonlotnc and @epicnorfolk.

We look forward to seeing you and your bike this month 🚲♻️💚🌍 taken in St Saviours Yard by @pedalpoweredprojects

On Thursday 10th September the plan is for @wastesmiths to bring the setting and you’re invited to bring your bike, and together it should be a good evening.

Basically from 6pm until 8pm we’ll be experimenting with our first ever outdoor Bike Kitchen at @st_saviours_yard. A Bike Kitchen is an opportunity to get support with fixing your own bike, so you’ll get access to tools and an experienced mechanic on hand. As hosts we’ll also sort you out with a hot or cold drink. If you want something more fancy, we’re expecting @sir_tobys_nr3 to be open.

The main thing we suggest if you’re planning to drop in is to come early, bring your own bike and don’t come with anything too complicated to fix. Take this as an opportunity to learn something new about your own bike and a chance to make some adjustments to gears or brakes while you’re here.

We look forward to seeing you between 6pm and 8pm on Thursday 10th September at St Saviours Yard. taken in St Saviours Yard by @pedalpoweredprojects

We’re back in Mile Cross for our next Dr Bike and it’s a special one. We’ll be popping up at the fabulous Galley Hill Dash organised by @epicnorfolk and @thecommonlotnc on Saturday 19th September from 10am until 1pm.

In addition to the dash there’ll be wheelbarrow races and a slow bike competition! So if your bike needs some race tuning ahead of the slow bike competition or you simply need your bike to be working to carry your tired legs away at the end of the event, we’ll be there to offer basic bike repairs for free.

All bikes are welcome, no matter how rattly or rusty. We operate on a first come first serve basis. So get there early, enjoy the event and freewheel home faster at the end. All we need in return is an email address to show our funder that we fixed your bike.

Huge thanks to @wearecyclinguk for their support to make this offer possible 🚲♻️💚🌍
