The Trash Bag Kittens are 4.5 months old now and are available for adoption! Roux (aka Doe) the gray tabby has already been adopted 🙌🏼 but Brooklyn (aka Ray), Carl (aka Mi), and Rugby (aka Fa) have been patiently waiting for their own forever home(s)! They’ve been at Pet Food Express in Sonoma, CA for a month and a half now and haven’t received any applications 😔 Black cat stigma is unfortunately so real, but I know their perfect home is out there!

Visit HSNB.org to fill out an adoption application and/or visit them at Pet Food Express in Sonoma, CA. They are social, playful, and so easy to love!

Also, HSNB is having reduced adoption fees until 8/31. If you’ve ever thought about adopting, now’s the time!

I’ve been feeding the strays that come by my house for a while but realized that that doesn’t really help the cat over population problem. So as a cat lady, I inevitably got involved in TNR.. and I have the laziest TNR setup!

I feed the cats right outside my front door so they’re already familiar. When my local TNR organization, @theperfectcatchrescue, has appointments, I set the trap and see if I get lucky! The cats are returned after they’ve had a day or two to recover from their surgery.

Although it can be equal parts exhilarating and stressful, it feels so good knowing I’m directly helping to prevent the suffering of dozens of unwanted kittens right here in my neighborhood!

There are so many elements and roles to TNR and countless dedicated volunteers doing this work. If this inspires you, look into the TNR organizations in your area and sign up to get involved!

This is your sign to plant NATIVE milkweed if you live in the monarch butterfly migration path!

Did you know milkweed is the only plant a monarch butterfly will lay her eggs on? Monarch caterpillars only eat milkweed so the plant is absolutely essential for their survival. There are many different species of milkweed so make sure to choose the kind that is NATIVE to your region because they have different seasonal growths which is timed with the butterfly’s migration. Also, don’t forget to plant native flowers so the adult butterflies don’t go hungry as well! They need a whole ecosystem to survive 💗🐛🦋

Seeing these butterflies brings instant joy. If you live in their migration path, go to your local nursery today and plant yourself some native milkweed and native flowers!

Pippin surprised us with 5 babies just four days ago.. a day before she was scheduled to be spayed! I’ll do a recap of her story soon. She’s been a fantastic mom so far and the kittens are all well fed, clean, and growing so fast!

To celebrate our new teen mom, I made her a “cake” with her favorite @inaba_northamerica Churu treat, @weruva wet food, and a @bonkers_pets Purr Pop!

So far, taking care of a mama cat with kittens is SO MUCH easier than caring for bottle babies. I just wonder where all her kitten’s poops go 😅💩

Happy Mothers Day, Pippin!

Thanks for all the love on the foster kittens video! I’m amazed at how many people watched all the way till the part I played Landslide for them 🥰. To be appreciated for two of the things I love most (cats/animals and music/singing) truly feels amazing 🥹🙏🏼

Fun fact: kittens are born blind and deaf! Their ear canals start opening up at around 5-10 days and they start being able to hear at 2 weeks. It can take up to 3 weeks for their ears and hearing to fully develop.

The foster kittens were about 2 weeks old here so it’s kinda cool knowing this is some of the first sounds they’re hearing in their lives! Gotta start their music journey young 😁

A week ago, I found a bag of kittens on the sidewalk and accidentally became a kitten foster mom!

I never thought I could foster kittens. Some excuses were:
- I already have cats and they don’t like other animals!
- I don’t have the space.
- What about when I’m at work?
- I can’t wake up in the middle of the night to feed them!

Welp, turns out
- My cats didn’t care too much.
- The kittens mostly stayed in their carrier the whole time and didn’t take up much space at all.
- I was able to drop them off at the shelter during days when I had to go into the office.
- It took a couple of nights to get adjusted but their care became pretty routine by the end and I could finish up their feeding session in 20min and go back to bed.

So if you’re thinking of fostering, DO IT! It’s so worthwhile! Watching them hit their milestones like weight gain, eyes opening, successfully pooping, etc. made me so proud! The hardest part for me was actually letting go. If you’re curious about fostering, I’m happy to chat!

These babies are now with their long term foster and will be available for adoption in a few weeks through @humanesocietynorthbay. Look for them at HSNB.org
