TONIGHT: 5+5 SLIDESHOW with THOMAS HOLTON - There’s still time to subscribe to our Fall ‘26 event series. This evening, Thomas Holton will share five photographs by other photographers that have influenced him, and five of his own that have been pivotal in his creative journey, offering insight into how he thinks about photography.

For more than 20 years, Thomas has photographed a single Chinese-American family in Manhattan’s Chinatown for his ongoing project The Lams of Ludlow Street, an intimate portrait of one family’s evolving story. His unique project has been exhibited at institutions including the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, the New York Public Library, and the Museum of the City of New York. A book of photos from the first decade of the project was published by Kehrer Verlag in 2016.

In addition to Thomas, guest photographers this fall include Matthew Pillsbury, Elinor Carucci, Maureen Drennan, Tema Stauffer, Stacy Mehrfar, Jason Langer, Matthew Baum, Qiana Mestrich, Oliver Farshi, and Charles Traub.

TONIGHT: 5+5 SLIDESHOW #1 - Our 5+5 slideshow series kicks off this evening at 6:30pm ET with PhotoPhlo founder Matthew Baum, who will share five photos by other photographers that have influenced him, and five of his own that have been pivotal in his creative development. The series runs on Tuesdays, 6:30-7:15pm ET, from October 6-December 15.

Upcoming 5+5 presenting photographers include Tema Stauffer, Matthew Pillsbury, Elinor Carucci, Qiana Mestrich, Thomas Holton, Maureen Drennan, Stacy Mehrfar, and Jason Langer.

FIVE + FIVE: JASON LANGER - This fall, we’re happy to include Jason Langer among the presenting artists in our upcoming 5+5 slideshow series, which kicks off tomorrow, Tuesday, October 6 at 6:30pm ET.

Jason’s work is informed by his Jewish upbringing and Buddhist practice. His latest book, Subrosa & the Cult of Aphrodite (Kehrer Verlag, 2026), documents Portland’s performance subculture through portraits and interviews, examining identity, the plasticity of ego, and the realities of sustaining a creative life. His work is held in collections including the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, Yale University Art Gallery, and the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. Jason also leads The CORE, an ongoing PhotoPhlo program helping photographers refine their narratives and bring their work into the world.

In his slideshow, Jason will share five photographs by other photographers that have influenced him, and five of his own that have been pivotal in his creative journey, offering insight into how he thinks about photography.

FIVE + FIVE: QIANA MESTRICH - This fall, we’re happy to include Qiana Mestrich among the presenting artists in our upcoming 5+5 slideshow series, kicking off October 6.

Qiana is an interdisciplinary artist, writer, and photo historian whose autobiographical photography and collage explore mixed-race identity, motherhood, and women’s labor. A first-generation American of Panamanian and Croatian descent, her work has been exhibited in the U.S. and internationally, most recently at Vassar College’s Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center and The National Museum of Computing in the UK. In 2007, she founded Dodge & Burn: Decolonizing Photography History, a blog and critique group dedicated to broadening the scope of photographic history, which became a Routledge book in 2025. Her honors include the Magnum Foundation Counter Histories grant and the CPW Saltzman Prize for Emerging Photographer.

In her slideshow, Qiana will share five images by other artists that have influenced her, and five of her own that have been pivotal in her creative journey, offering insight into how she thinks about photography.

5+5: STACY MEHRFAR - This fall, we’re happy to include Stacy Mehrfar among the presenting artists in our upcoming 5+5 slideshow series, kicking off October 6.

Stacy is an artist working with photography and video. Her work explores belonging, perception, and the ways place shapes identity. Her most recent photobook, The Moon Belongs to Everyone, considers the emotional experience of migration. Her work has been exhibited at KMAC Contemporary Art Museum, the International Center of Photography, and TEDxSydney, and featured in the British Journal of Photography and 1000 Words. Mehrfar is faculty at the International Center of Photography and the School of Visual Arts.

5+5: MATTHEW PILLSBURY - This fall, we’re happy to include Matthew Pillsbury among the presenting artists in our upcoming 5+5 slideshow series, kicking off October 6.

Matthew specializes in long-exposure photographs made only with available light, following the passage of time and the people who move through the spaces he photographs. He has captured scenes everywhere from New York City apartments to museums, parades, cathedrals, and other private and public spaces around the world. His work is held in public collections including the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim, and the Musée du Louvre, and he is a recipient of the John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship. A monograph of his work was published by Aperture in 2013.

In his slideshow, Matthew will share five photographs by other photographers that have influenced him, and five of his own that have been pivotal in his creative journey, offering insight into how he thinks about photography.

5+5: TEMA STAUFFER - This fall, we’re happy to include Tema Stauffer among the presenting artists in our upcoming 5+5 slideshow series, kicking off October 6.

Tema’s work traces what history leaves behind in the American landscape. Her first book, “Upstate,” documents the industrial legacy of Hudson, New York, and her second, “Southern Fiction,” follows the literary legacy of the American South. In her current project, “Wonderlands,” Tema’s camera focuses on tourism, religion, and folklore in Southern Appalachia. These series have been exhibited widely at museums, galleries, and universities throughout the South. Tema teaches photography at East Tennessee State University.

In her slideshow, Tema will share five photographs by other photographers that have influenced her, and five of her own that have been pivotal in her creative journey, offering insight into how she thinks about photography.

5+5: MAUREEN DRENNEN - This fall, we’re happy to include Maureen Drennan among the presenting photographers in our upcoming 5+5 slideshow series, kicking off October 6.

Maureen photographs small, isolated communities. Her work follows the people who live in them, and their relationship to place, through change, loss, and resilience. It has been exhibited at institutions including the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery and the Museum of the City of New York, and published in The New Yorker, The New York Times, and The Atlantic. Maureen teaches photography at LaGuardia Community College, CUNY.

FALL ‘26 EVENT SERIES - We’re pleased to announce our Fall ‘26 calendar, starting up on October 6. The centerpiece is 5+5, a Tuesday evening (ET) slideshow series in which guest photographers share five photos by other photographers that have influenced them, and five of their own that have been pivotal in their creative development.

Presenting photographers include Tema Stauffer, Matthew Pillsbury, Elinor Carucci, Qiana Mestrich, Thomas Holton, Maureen Drennan, Stacy Mehrfar, Matthew Baum, and Jason Langer.

Alongside 5+5, the lineup includes two standalone lectures: Oliver Farshi, on his long-term project Last Days: Photographing End of Life, and Charles Traub, photographer, educator, and longtime champion of the medium, sharing work from his 60-year career.

To bring this event series to life, we are offering access to all Fall ‘26 events and screen recordings for a subscription fee of $50. You also have the option of fall access plus a discounted portfolio review with PhotoPhlo founder Matthew Baum.
