It is with deep sadness, that I bring the news of the peaceful passing of my mother, Karlita, the icon, the national treasure and beloved queen of Gulfport this morning at 9:22 AM EST.

Karla suffered a catastrophic stroke on Tuesday, March 10th, which paralyzed her right side and her speech, she then suffered a cardiac event that stopped her heart - she was revived but the doctors advised that recovery was impossible, her brain was compromised beyond repair or healing. Knowing Karla as we all do, not being able to crack a joke, lift a glass of rum, or smoke a cig was never in the cards for her so, surrounded by my family, we made the decision to cease life supportive care. In classic Karla fashion, full of resilience and strength to keep fighting, she passed in her sleep peacefully in hospice 9 days later.

Karla had a gigantic community in Gulfport and a big beautiful life here and in her hometown of Minneapolis- she will be forever missed as the spirit of this town but her wild and free legacy will live on in the stories we will tell for all time.

Please stay tuned for more information on a HUGE celebration of life party we will hold in her honor at Stormrunners - likely in May in Gulfport, Florida. Additionally, an obituary will be published in the Gulfport Gabber and the MN Star Tribune. She will be cremated (so she can have a “hot body one more time” as she used to joke) and set to sea in her favorite Gulfport bay so she can always watch over her favorite people, in her favorite place on earth. taken in Gulfport, Florida by @playbymarly

Our hospitality/multifamily lead Account Executive and @newh_northcentral board member/former President Stephanie Thompson and our A&D Business Development lead Marly Ramstad traveled to the 2025 Boutique Design fair in NYC this past weekend! It was incredible to see all the new offerings from talented vendors and to wine and dine with some of our favorite MN designers while in the big apple! by @playbymarly

Auntie Mar Mar summer comes to an end at Savi’s 5th birthday party on the lake yesterday… her theme? An obscure 1990’s Nintendo video game I’ve never heard of - Kirby, get it little one. I’ll miss these babes, so grateful to be a part of this family - thank you @elise.whittaker for all the magic you bring to my life and to the lives of all those you touch 💕💓💗💞 by @playbymarly

Another super fun @parametersmn event in the books!! This time with the fabulous interiors teams from @popedesigngroup — We invited expert stylist Brenda from @mindfulstyling to join us for an afternoon of color analysis where she helped the girlies discover their “true colors” based on their skin over/undertones, eye color and other factors- everyone left knowing if they were a warm Autmn; true Summer, or a cool Spring (no Winters in this group 😜) Special thanks to @marieehastings from @millerknoll who provided a fabulous charcuterie spread and happy hour drinks and to @allisonjberry for hosting us at her gorgeous apartment building @themasonapartments - THANKS to all who joined us!! by @playbymarly

Last night we executed our first #knolling event at @studio__bv after months of rummage sales, FB marketplace and thrift sourcing -this is the big art project I’ve been working towards!!! I was so happy with how well it tuned out and how much everyone enjoyed it! Special thanks to @mywinetruth for picking “weird wine” (Austrian!) for our wine tasting to go with my “weird things” project! What an incredible experience to attend the Hospitality Design Expo in Las Vegas with my friend and hospitality specialist colleague ( + rockstar interior designer + project executive extraordinaire) @snef2884 - I learned so much, got so inspired and met so many awesome industry professionals, what a trip! by @playbymarly

Happy Mother’s Day to this National Treasure @karlitaramstad - my mother has had such a hard, sad life - even before losing her 17 year old son and husband of 32 years 18 years ago, my mom lost her mom when she was 10 and raised us kids as a motherless mom - but she fucking knocked it out of the park raising my brother and I (despite 100s of hardships along the way I won’t get into here today) she was a rockstar mom.

As I’ve spent the last 18 years as her only child, I’ve noticed in the past 5 or so years how much I have become like her (something that might not have happened had the rest of my family not died) and I could not be more proud to catch myself cracking a well-timed joke, finding and being the magic, connecting to nature/spirit and exuding extraordinary kindness to strangers - I see her in me blossoming into the woman I am today and I am so grateful for the gifts she has given me, just by being herself…

The lessons that my mothers life tells and how she’s responded to these hardships is a book I have been writing in my head since I started writing poetry at 14 and it’s only gotten better with age… but the thing I’m still not able to fully grasp or articulate into words is the origin of the deep joy and strength that emanates from her and keeps her so ALIVE despite the life she’s lived… if you have had the pleasure of knowing Karla, you know this joy and I am so beyond blessed to have been born her daughter, so I can make it my life’s mission to bottle up her magic in me and in my words to capture the impossible resilience of mamacita Karlita. by @playbymarly

Auntie Mar Mar in full force last weekend… I think one of my favorite roles I play in my life now is that of Auntie to my besties kiddos…

I got to spend two full sleepover days with Xander -which meant that the magical blue dragon that lives at Puerta Rosa left trinkets on the magic rock for Xander two mornings (the dragon comes overnight obviously, like Santa) in a row (3/4)- we went to the @bellmuseum and to TWO @goodwillmn stores, we ate cheeseburgers and pizza and dug through my many “treasure chests” at one point Xander stared misty eyed out my front window and whispered, unprompted “it’s so magical here… *deep sigh*”

Then I got to take Savi (who is too little still for sleepovers) to High Tea @thelynhall - I got her a pretty pink dress and sparkly shoes for the occasion (which wasn’t enough, we needed a bow and a sparkly broach and a giant pink handbag from my old Kate spade collection) then she picked out the dress I needed to wear and we wore our matching jean jackets to tea… obviously her favorite part was the insane sweet-cream butter spread and her outfit (which she refused to take off for two days according to mom, insisted she wear it on the plane home…)
