…. surprise! we are back in 2 weeks. for our 3rd party, we’ve got a very special guest joining us… @wickedbass

when blip was nothing more than a few fragmented ideas and noise in our heads, we wrote down the artists we would love to most bring to brisbane. the first name on that list was very quickly the idiosyncratic ukrainian, noizar.

if you know who he is, you’ll know why we’re so excited. but if you’ve never heard of him… listen up.

noizar formed his sound in the melting pot of stripped back and chaotic musical ideas that is closer, in kiev. as one of the main alumni to push this characteristically ukrainian sound further outside the country, noizar quickly found his audience.

somewhat ironically, categorising noizar as a ‘minimal’ dj would be a reductionist way of explaining his sound. that said, he has been fighting the fight on behalf of mid 2000s bargain bin freakshow minimal long before it was even a fight, trojan-horsing these otherwise unacceptable records onto stages and dancefloors renowned for their tastefulness and obscurity, soundtracking sleepless nights and mornings that should have ended long ago but never did… all around the world.

whilst his sound has caterpillared into more psychadelic realms in recent years, the minimal learnings haven’t been forsaken.

every record of his that reaches the turntable performs at its optimum. less elements, working harder, finding clarity with one another. if horny malfunctioning robots danced throughout the night, this is what it sounds like. put simply, music trends can be circular, but they sure did take a while to catch up with him.

noizar makes us feel how we always wanted to feel on dancefloors. it’s uncompromising, schizophrenic, energetic and sleek. still not convinced? then it’s the ultimate trust me bro… you don’t want to be missing when noizar is weaving his sexy dark magic over brisneyland. easter sunday chocolate from your aunties will taste sweet, but nothing sounds sweeter than noizar at the doon.

we’re going deep and wiggy in the basement this week as we invite @pond_fogger and @_puskyy._ to hold it down in the basement. but before we get into that, we’d like to thank @____felix.aus and @tinywhisk_nrg for holding it down last week!

Having been a driving force behind the @___s___o___a___p___ events and an excellent selector in their own right, @pond_fogger specialises in hypnotic, minimal grooves and mesmerising textures. we also have @_puskyy._ coming onboard to deliver some big breaks, freaky prog and everything else in between. we love a pairing of a scene stalwart and an exciting newcomer, and we cannot wait to see what they both bring!

In my 6 years of d floor debauchery I’ve never experienced an event that ticked so many boxes: lineup, lighting, location, crowd, sound system were all as close to perfect as they could be. The only things wrong about this party were there to remind me that I’m still alive, and that I hadn’t died and gone to some doof utopia.

Big ups to the @woodburnia crew for doing such a good job resetting the bar. by @pond_fogger

So the last industrial doof was pretty hard work. I thought round two might be easier… but it turns out it’s still really hard work.   I love it though. It’s so damn risky. like the idea that you could spend all this money on a bloody party and then boomer-Karen finds it easier to call the cops instead of just turning their hearing aid down, and all your shit gets fucked up. It just gets me going.  And at the end of the day it’s so worth it. IMHO you cannot compare a club night to a fat BYO party with a soundsystem no one under 30 should have access to. It just gets so loose; want to smoke a cigarette? Okay, just do it here: front left. Want another beer? Sure, just grab it from the esky. It creates a uniquely liberating environment that can’t be paralleled by other dance experiences. An environment for open-minded conversation, the erosion of echo chambers and a sense of oneness on the dancefloor.
