Save this post if you’re ready for some October adventures 🎃🍁🍂

I love October and the changing of the colours, the leaves underfoot, embracing all things cosy but also getting outside and in the autumn air

Because let’s be honest, there’s nothing better than a autumn colours woodland walk, followed by coming home, getting all cosy and watching strictly with a hot chocolate

So what adventures are you planning this month?? taken in Lake District by @postcardsfromkatie_

embracing the micro in microadventure and this is one I’ve been doing for the last 27 YEARS 🥾

This will forever be one of my favourite walks - it’s still got an incline but I’ve done this since I was 3, it was my first more strenuous walk after surgery, it’s where I came to watch the sunrise after lockdown restrictions started easing, and it’s where I love to come and just get a different view

Plus ANY adventure which involves coffee at @vereybooks is going to be a good one (and yes, their pumpkin spiced latte is 10/10 and I did pick up The Lamb for my next read!!)

If you think you haven’t got the time, money or health to live an adventure filled life then you might want to rethink that

Because I used to think that too, until I learnt about microadventures 🌲🥾⛰️✨

These are small adventures that you can do locally, that don’t cost you the earth and can be tailored to your access needs (and energy levels!!)

As a chronically ill gal who loved exploring and adventures and being outside, this has honestly changed the game

So if you too want to live a big adventureful lofe, follow along and we can all build lives that truly feel joyful and adventurous to us by @postcardsfromkatie_

an evening reminder that your microadventures don’t have to be these big crazy things, they can be as simple as a 20 minute walk 🍁

(no, but seriously, living a big adventureful life means finding joy in these small everyday adventures and it makes alllll the difference) by @postcardsfromkatie_

I’m baaaackkkk 👋🏼 and so are the weekly microadventures 🥾⛰️✨🌲

3 years ago, I started documenting going on weekly microadventures and sharing how I do that as a chronically ill gal who also loves being outside and exploring in different ways

This summer has been jam packed with adventures, but whilst I was having the best time having those BIG adventures, the moment I was home I forgot my adventure spirit

To end 2026 in the way I want to, the weekly microadventures are back. It’s a way to prioritise getting outside in nature, embrace the season, and have some fun along the way

So, who’s with me 🍁☕️🌲✨ taken in Lake District by @postcardsfromkatie_

I don’t quite know how we’re at the end of September but here we are and was a gorgeous month it was - and definitely jam packed with adventures!

From sailing with my uncle, to a hiking weekend with @outdooradventuregirlsuk and finishing with an epic holiday travelling on the trains of the Pyrenees!

What have the highlights of your month been? by @postcardsfromkatie_

this might be the most controversial thing I’ve said on the internet 😅

but it’s also something that’s been on my mind for the last year, especially as someone who does create travel content

Maybe it’s the type A in me, but I am a researcher. I like to have a plan when I travel, and it’s embarrassing to admit but I get stressed about trying to see everything that I think people will expect me to see and create content on

It all stemmed from when I was in Vienna last Christmas, I was ill and basically all plans went out of the window. I learnt that it’s okay to not fill a day with wall to wall plans, and the restaurant we stumbled in because I was tired and hungry was waaaay better that the one that every man and his dog said you ‘had to visit’

And more recently it’s got me thinking about how I go about creating content, because I truly believe that we need to wander more and be more spontaneous…

And no, that doesn’t mean I’m stopping sharing my adventures, or my recommendations because I LOVE sharing them (and I love getting them from other people too!!) but maybe we can all wander of the main path a little bit more…

Okay brain dump over 😅 by @postcardsfromkatie_

Postcards From : The Little Trains of the Pyrenees 🚂

Every year I do at least one trip that involves going on a scenic railway, and this year was to the Pyrenees and oh my goodness it was BEAUTIFUL 😍

We were based in Roses on the Costa Brava in Catalonia, Spain and over the five days did 3 scenic railway journeys, a land train and the Salvador Dali museum

It was five days of sunshine, some of the most beautiful views and train journeys going over spectacular viaducts and suspension bridges, and it was absolute PERFECTION

Train journeys we did :

❤️ The Red Train of the Pyrenees from Rivesaltes to Axat
💛 The Yellow Train from Mont Louis to Villefranche (and make sure to spend time in Villefranche because it is beautiful)
💙 Núria Valley Railway - a cog railway that takes you to the resort of Vall de Núria which is a car free resort and offers some stunning mountainous views and plenty of activities

Where we stayed : we stayed in Roses and the hotel was Prestige Saint Marc. Whilst it didn’t offer a sea view, it was less than a 5 min walk to the front, had great food (we were half board and enjoyed it!), and a gorgeous pool

I adored our trip here and could’ve happily stayed a lot longer to explore more of the landscape, beaches and walks that are on offer here (and eat my body weight in tapas!!) taken in Roses, Costa Brava, Spain by @postcardsfromkatie_

Spent the day on the Red Train in the Pyrenees and I still can’t get over just HOW BEAUTIFUL this journey is!!

You start by hopping onboard a more vintage style train which takes you through a quarry (the least beautiful part of the journey!) and through mountain villages before you swap trains to an open air carriage where you go through incredible mountainous scenes, over huge viaducts, through long echoey tunnels, and through gorgeous woodlands (some of which you could still smell the burning from the recent wildfires)

Whilst we didn’t go as high up as we did on the yellow train, the red train still served some stunning views and was an absolutely joyous day out!

(and yes, I have spent the week matching my outfits to the colours of the train because I love a matchy match moment) taken in Le Train Rouge by @postcardsfromkatie_

if you love scenic railway journeys then this is the one for you 🚃

The Yellow Train is this charming historic mountain railway that takes you through the French Pyrenees. The beautiful old school carriages make you feel like you’re in an episode of Poirot, and the scenery is spectacular as you hug the mountains, go through the valleys and over beautiful viaducts and an incredible suspension bridge

We took the route from Mont Louis to Villefranche and it was 1.5hrs of breathtaking scenery!

Hi 👋🏼 I’m Katie May and I love all things microadventures, travel and scenic railway journeys (and always in search of good food and good coffee!) and this week I’m exploring the railways of the Pyrenees so make sure to follow along! taken in Le Petit Train Jaune by @postcardsfromkatie_
