OPEN CALL and FAQ: We hear you! Our exhibition will feature letters and artworks, and right now we are open for ARTWORKS!
.
Important things to note:
- All selected artworks will be sold together with the letter. The artist receives RM250. You should only submit artworks you are comfortable with letting go at that price 🤍
- The first week's letters will be posted at 3pm. Subsequent weeks will be published every Wednesday at 3pm.
- this open call is for artists residing in MALAYSIA only

Oh Anthony,
This letter is to be addressed to Anthony, or the name he so deigns: Tonu.
Pardon me for what I will say, you know I do not engage in profanity so easily.
Fuck you, Anthony. You are a moron. You goddamned coward. When you told me that I deserved somebody better, I argued that I do not, but now I think you are correct. I do deserve somebody better. You had to leave me to merely prove that you didn't even have the courage to come by my house and say it to my face, instead you would rather remove me from all of your socials and disappear. Were you scared of me? It must've felt a lot better now that I am gone, if that is a problem for you.

We have been together for so many years, did it mean nothing to you? You couldn't at least offered to talk or say goodbye, but you would rather ignore me. Fuck you, you are weak and insecure about yourself. Did you even care? Is this why you complained so much about loneliness and suicide? Is this why you cut your wrists and thighs? I truly liked you, Anthony. I still do now. I am anguished by what you've done, but I do not really do not want to hate you. I don't know what to think anymore.

I will never understand you.

Dear [Redacted],

There are moments when art does something far beyond performance. I wanted you to know that your work did precisely that for me.

For years and years, I had quietly convinced myself to walk away. A sensible career was always the only preference, and so I put the stage behind me. I stopped the theatre, the traditional dance and gamelan, the pure joy of devoting myself to stories that made me feel alive. I relegated all of it to a past life, loudly wishing the quiet ache to perform was simply a naive phase I had outgrown.

Then, September last year, I intentionally chanced upon your portrayal of a flinty-knotty female on screen, and the facade I had spent years building crumpled. Feeling a tad bit insane writing that.

It was the honest, unvarnished truth that you brought to your performance. Being an audience of your portrayal felt more as if witnessing someone honouring a calling. I very much hate the character. Still, the penny dropped with clarity — I hadn't outgrown my passion at all, I had been hiding from it for the past half a decade.

You made me fall back in love with the arts, with a ferocious passion one can only imagine. You restored a trust in the craft I didn't realise I had partially lost. Through you, my dream of one day standing on a stage or even in front of a camera isn't a buried memory anymore. It is an avenue I am now reclaiming, no matter how daunting the expectations and the road ahead might be.

Dear Nabil,

It’s been two years since we severed our bond. You would think that such a long time would have put out the fire of love in my heart. It didn’t. I tried extinguishing it. I indulged myself in dates after dates, flings after flings, sex after sex; they are like blowing a feeble wind onto this raging flame, expecting it to fade, only for it to grow and burn my heart even more. I’m beginning to think that it would only die if my heart turned into ashes, or rot beneath the dirt.

Yet, I never regret the days we shared. Your laughter as we rode around your village, your smile as we fed the chickens, your moans as we entwined in flesh and heart, they remain sweet to me. I pray this fire doesn’t scorch you too. I pray we’ll meet again at the pearly gates, aware of the absurdity of such prayer.

The day you left was the day I had to learn how to become a man.

I still remember that day vividly as if it happened yesterday. I was on my way to work when you were sitting on your bed drinking a cup of milk. I kissed you on the cheeks before I left, just like how I did countless times, the only difference was this time was going to be the last time I do so.
