Drawing on self-built modular systems, acoustic sound sources, and live electronics, his work foregrounds timbre, texture, and physical interaction with sound rather than fixed compositions. It was an incredible incredible honour to play at the first edition of @akasagathering, at 3500m in Karu, Ladakh, right next to the Indus river, surrounded by juniper trees, among the nicest people.

I remember speaking to @film011 way back in March about what's cooking all the way up here in Ladakh, and I was so glad it all came together in August. I couldn't have imagined playing at such a beautiful location.

There's something to be said for festivals that make room for ambient music as a genuine counterweight to the all nighter. In a culture obsessed with peak time, carving out space for stillness takes real intention. It was quietly one of the most thoughtful parts of the lineup, treating the chillout as its own necessary architecture, something that prepares the crowd for the night to come.

I want to thank @saminorbit for being the most generous host during my time in Ladakh, and for driving me to SNM hospital at 4am on Friday night when I was extremely sick with a stomach bug and tachycardic. Thanks to him and the IV antibiotics I got that night, I was able to play on Sunday at all. Don't know how I would have gotten through this trip without him.

Thank you also to @film011 @mallikabaikerikar and @falak_majid__ for the conversation that started my journey to Ladakh, and to everyone at the festival who made it happen, @sainathbhagwat @freedomtofish @dax.inc @saanch.av @wadjet_ and everyone else <3

Super excited to be bringing my ambient improvisation live set to Karu, Ladakh this weekend on Sunday, 6th September at @akasagathering.

Very honoured to be on the same stage as @fursat_fm, @iakksakkath, @m_r_mortazavi and others! I go on at 3PM on Sunday.

I'll be field testing the @tarab_instruments
Super Simple Module series (Super Simple Delay (and Reverb), and the Super Simple Daisy). For this performance I've written a custom additive drone synth firmware based on buchla additive patch workflows.

It’s a DIY instrument-building kinda Saturday at Friction. The multi-hyphenate Ali aka Qareebi is here to show you how to build your own custom noise box using an assortment of metallic objects like springs and tines.

You can then personalize your musical instrument with paint, markers, or custom stickers. Feel free to bring your own accessories to make it yours.

Once the builds are complete, we’ll plug in and jam together, conjuring up eerie cinematic textures and raw horror movie soundtracks.

PCB Design in KiCad for Hobbyists

Learn to design circuit boards from scratch! We'll build two PCBs: a simple buzzer circuit to learn the basics, then a more advanced Raspberry Pi Pico-based project board.

LIVE in concert this Friday evening at Friction, Qareebi presents an ambient performance built entirely on hand-made instruments: a eurorack modular rig, contact mic’d kalimbas, and a sho-zyg box fitted with springs and metallic tines.

Together they shape a set that moves between fragile acoustic texture and deep electronic drone, drawing sound from touch, resonance, and homemade circuitry.

Feeling so incredibly happy after the first edition of our "Build Your Own Noise Box Workshop!" at @papercranelab <3

12 noise boxes built over 3 hours! we started by learning where noise boxes come from (Hugh Davies' Sho-Zyg boxes from 1968) and learnt how piezo discs pick up sounds, then we learnt what impedance is and why we need an amplifier to be able to hear all the frequencies that the discs pickup.

Once we had all the theory down, we started with planning out where we wanted our attachments and accessories to go and we drilled the holes for the springs and saw blade attachments!

Everyone got to try out their noise boxes, the setup included plugging into my 10 input mixer with the Hologram Microcosm adding reverb and delay effects!

My favourite clip is of everyone just working with their hands with Miles Davis playing in the background.
