Apparently menopause wasn’t enough of a challenge this year, so I decided to learn a hula dance too. 😂🌺

Every year, I try to do something that scares me or gets me completely out of my comfort zone.

And THIS ONE is definitely doing it.

Because if you know me, you know I want to learn something today and somehow be good at it, also today. 😂

Yeah. That’s not how this works!!!

I’m learning the steps. Messing them up. Doing them again. Asking questions. Learning the meaning and history behind the dance, and reminding my perfectionist self that being a beginner is part of the process.

I want to keep challenging my brain.
Keep challenging my body.
Keep learning.
Keep getting uncomfortable.
And keep discovering things about myself and my culture along the way.

One of the coolest parts has been learning about the connection between Filipino and Hawaiian culture represented through the dance we’ll be performing.

And yes, I said PERFORMING. IN FRONT OF PEOPLE. 😳😂

So now I actually have to learn it!!!

Save October 17th and come see whether all this practicing paid off 😂 as we celebrate Filipino American History Month with an amazing day highlighting our culture, community and Filipino-owned businesses.

Until then, I’ll be over here counting steps and reminding myself:

Business, family, menopause and now we’re hosting a NATIONAL SUMMIT?! 😂🇵🇭

DUDEEE, I’m EXCITED!!! 😆

For those who know me, you know I LOVE bringing people together. Especially when it means creating opportunities for others.

Got to share a few thoughts during our @cofacc_official national strategic planning meeting about something I really believe in; we spend so much time investing in our members, but are we investing enough in the leaders doing all the work?

Why? Cuz gosh-darn-it, leading and serving takes a LOT. And I’ve learned that you can’t keep pouring into everyone else without growing yourself too.

And now our @philamchambercommerceofga team has the opportunity to be the HOST CHAMBER for COFACC Atlanta 2027! 🎉

A TWO-DAY national summit bringing together a coalition of 62+ chambers and associations (and counting!) from across the country!!!

I mean, HOW COOL IS THAT?! 😂❤️

And yes, I’m navigating menopause right in the middle of all this. Some days my energy is great. Other days, you know how it dooo. 😂

But one thing hasn’t changed. I still LOVE serving, learning, meeting people, and being part of something bigger than myself. 🙌🏼

I’m also learning to pace myself, lean on my team, and remember that I don’t have to do everything to make a difference.

And speaking of TEAM 🎊 I’m SO proud of our PACCGA crew for taking this on. We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us, but I couldn’t be more excited about what we’re building together.

For those who know me, I DON’T COOK. 🤣 Hubby is the chef in our house.

Fall weather has me craving grilled cheese and tomato soup. Told him, and he said, “Let’s do it!”

30+ years of marriage, menopause, and a whole lot of life have taught me 3 things:

❤️ 1. Love is in the little things. Being heard and thought of matters more than grand gestures.

😂 2. Marriage isn’t always 50/50. He cooks. I eat. We both bring something to the table!

🤍 3. Simple is GOOD. Not every moment needs to be a production. Sometimes comfort food and your favorite person are enough.

Marriage tip: Find someone who makes your life feel a little easier, not more complicated. ❤️

DUUUDE. I’m doing something I’ve NEVER done before, and I’m excited AND nervous! 😂🌺💃🏽

For those of you who know me, I try to do at least ONE thing every year that scares the crap 💩 out of me.

But lately? I’ve been doing that a whole lot more! 😂

Especially going through menopause. I’m learning that I still want to challenge myself. Physically, mentally, emotionally, ALL OF IT!

And my latest adventure? Learning HULA! 🌺

For the past couple of months, we’ve been practicing a special performance choreographed by one of our newest @philamchambercommerceofga business members, Kahloe, the owner of @moveponofit!

And this isn’t just any dance. It’s storytelling through movement. 📚

She created a beautiful choreography inspired by the history of Filipino cowboys in Hawaii. 🇵🇭🌺

If you know anything about hula, the hands 🙌🏼 tell so much of the story. Every gesture, every movement, every expression has meaning.

And trying to remember all those movements while making them look graceful?! GIRLLLL. 😂

I’m used to moving my body, but this is a whole different kind of challenge! Slowing down, memorizing choreography, expressing emotion through my hands, while trying not to look like I’m counting every beat in my head. 🤣 But that’s what makes it FUN!!!

I’m proud that we’re doing something different, learning a piece of history through dance, and supporting a fellow woman business owner as she gets ready for her Pono Fit grand opening on Sunday, October 18th! 🎉

Such a great morning for the first @women_in_biz_roswell networking hike!!!

I love that we’re switching things up. Networking doesn’t always have to mean sitting around a table with food and name tags. Sometimes it’s walking a trail, getting some fresh air and talking business while we’re moving.

And for me, going through menopause and really paying attention to how I want to age, I LOVE being around women who value staying active and taking care of themselves too.

We talked business. Shared ideas. Made connections. Got our steps in. 😂

That’s what I love about this community. There are different ways to show up, meet other women in business and actually get to KNOW each other.

Yes, there’s a very good chance I’m the one making inside joke and laughing out loud.

BUTTT, I swear I can be a regular, responsible adult when the occasion calls for it!!! 😂

Exhibit A: dressed up, behind a podium, giving the inspirational keynote in front of 400+ people for the 25th Anniversary of @bayanihanofcolga. 🇵🇭❤️

And while I joke, being asked to speak for a milestone like this really was an honor. 🙏🏼

25 years doesn’t happen because of one person. It happens because people keep showing up. They volunteer. They serve. They preserve the culture. They bring the next generation along. And they keep going long after the excitement of starting something new wears off.

That’s something worth celebrating. ❤️

Congratulations to the entire Bayanihan of Columbus community on 25 years of impact, culture and service.

See? I clean up pretty well AND I can behave.
