Die Skulpturen von Rainer Prohaska sind oft begehbar und benutzbar, es sind Räume, vom Teehaus, über einen Stadtbogen bis zum Donauschiff. Mit der MS Fusion entwickelte Prohaska mit seinem Team einen selbstgebauten Trimaran, der jährlich von Linz bis nach Sulina am Schwarzen Meer gefahren ist und als Artist-in-Residence-Atelier diente. Oft wird dabei modulhaft mit Materialien aus der Bau- oder Transportbranche gearbeitet. Planungs- und Konstruktionsprozess fließen ineinander.

Nicht nur durch die Wiederverwendung von Materialien will Rainer Prohaska zum Transformationsprozess zu einer umweltverträglichen Zukunft beitragen, auch strukturell ist er aktiv: An der Akademie der Bildenden Künste hat Prohaska ein Forschungszentrum für Nachhaltigkeit in den Künsten mitbegründet; die Organisation Futurama Lab entwickelt ökologisch und sozial nachhaltige Kulturprojekte.

Im „Intermezzo“-Gespräch mit Anna Soucek berichtet Rainer Prohaska über seine künstlerische Forschung und die Reproduzierbarkeit seiner skulpturalen Räume und er erklärt, wieso er Materialien lieber in einem Nachtzugabteil nach Rom transportiert, als grönländische Eisberge nach Paris zu schiffen. by @rainer_prohaska

Thank you for joining us last week at the opening of our walk-in installation in the park of the Otto Wagner Areal.

Created from reclaimed materials, the installation consisted of imaginative structures positioned between treehouses, bird nests and architectural sculptures. Inspired by the building practices of nature and the improvised logics of everyday life, the work explores questions of coexistence, building, and the appropriation of space.

CASA [SENZA] ALBERI . NIDO [SENZA] UCCELLI transformed the green area surrounding Pavilion 21 into a new gathering place at the Otto Wagner Areal, located at the intersection of the city and the Wiener Wald.

The installation was developed in collaboration between @rainer_prohaska, @kollektiv_kaorle and FUTURAMA°LAB. by @rainer_prohaska

THE CARS WE LIKE
A humorous exploration of the future of the car

A project by FUTURAMA°LAB for Chemnitz 2025 . European Capital of Culture
Part of THE SCHOOL OF GARAGE by @hello_constructlab & @3000garagen

THE CARS WE LIKE is an art project that re-uses and re-purposes materials to construct vehicles through a variety of building techniques. Situated at the crossroads of art, technology, and urbanism, these mobile objects playfully undermine prevailing conventional concepts of urban mobility. Appearing in traffic as absurd and dadaistic vehicles, they humorously question the ways we move through our cities.

During a live building performance from June 28 to July 5, 2025, a human-powered truck was created with the collaboration of Michelle Grünberg, Carlos Kämpfe, and Tim Ellinger (trainees from the VW plant Chemnitz).

As part of THE SCHOOL OF GARAGE (August 24–31, 2025), this truck will be technically refined together with workshop participants to take on diverse logistical tasks. In a series of street interventions, goods, metaphors, people, and ideas will be transported between the nine garages, creating a functional connection between these temporary studios and their artists.

The workshop will be accompanied by the collective -h- of the Cellule d'Action Rituelle (Cell for Ritual Action) of the ZAD NDDL - the biggest occupied zone in Europe. They will help us reflect on the relation of territoriality, capitalism & mobility and devise queer-ritualistic approaches with us that we will present on 30th of August.

Our vehicle will be on display again in the Garagen Campus from September until end of November.

As an introduction to the evening, the initiators of the FUTURAMA°LAB activities will provide a status report.

Vila Velha de Ródão was our departing point of our journey along the Tagus river in Portugal.
The MES-FUSION ULTRA and crew visited countless beautiful areas and towns with wonderful people. You can see a bit of that on the photos.
