POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Over the last few days I’ve shared a couple of stories about domestic and family violence in Australia.

The response has been shock, anger and disbelief and acknowledgement that something needs to change systemically, culturally and within our court system.

I’ve spoken a lot about mine and my family's experience.
After over a decade of constant physical abuse my father broke into our home, bashed and shot my mum, and then fired at the house and my sister

He received four years in prison.
That was 25 years ago.

Yet here we are, still having the same conversations.

There's something else I’ve noticed over the past few days that I find incredibly disheartening. Around 95% of the people liking, sharing and responding to what I’ve shared have been women.

Why are we as men so willing to call out bad behaviour in every other area of life, but so quiet when it comes to violence against women? I know it’s not all men. Nobody is saying that it is.

But men are overwhelmingly the perpetrators of violence against women, and acknowledging that does not mean condemning every man. It means recognising that men have an important role to play in changing the culture that allows violence, intimidation and control to continue.

That starts long before somebody lays a hand on a woman. Call it out.

And if you recognise controlling, abusive or violent behaviour in yourself, get help before somebody else pays the price for it.

We need to do better.

Thanks to everyone who's reached out today after listening to me share my story on the @lifeuncutpodcast

@brittany_hockley @ladyandacat @keeshiapettit Thank you for inviting me on the pod. The way you all created such a safe environment for me to share my story I'm really grateful for. There's a reason you guys are so successful. You're brilliant at what you do. 🫶

I'm a big believer in sharing our stories, it's been the most cathartic thing I've been able to do on my journey navigating my own mental health struggles. Hopefully it helps others to do the same.

The gym became more than just training. It became a safe space.

Rawson Kirkhope, Co-Founder of VRTUS, shares how fitness started as an outlet during difficult times, and how that same sense of community and belonging is now at the heart of what they’ve built.

With everything we’re seeing around domestic violence in this country, I think it’s more important than ever that we challenge what we’re teaching young men about masculinity.

Strength isn’t about power over someone else. It isn’t about intimidation, aggression or control.

It’s about how you treat people, particularly those who are more vulnerable than you.

I can’t change what I was exposed to growing up, but I can choose the example I set today.

And if I can help even one man understand that he doesn’t need to become the toughest person in the room to be worthy of respect, then that’s something I can be proud of.

We need to show the next generation that there’s another way to be strong.

Today is Double Donation Day for @polishedman, with every donation matched up to $25,000.

Polished man exists to help end violence against women and children. The blue nail represents the 1 in 5 Australians who have experienced family or domestic violence.

Theirs is a mission I deeply believe in, creating a world where no child experiences violence, and challenging the attitudes and behaviours that allow violence to continue.

I know the impact violence can have long after it has stopped, and I know how important education and safe spaces can be in changing that story for the next generation.

If you’ve been thinking about supporting Polished Man, today is the day. Your donation will have twice the impact. šŸ’™

Trauma doesn’t always look like trauma.

Sometimes it looks like independence, perfectionism and never asking for help.

For a very long time, I thought surviving something meant getting through it and carrying on with life and in many ways, I did.

I built a life I’m incredibly proud of.

What I’ve come to understand recently though is that you can move a long way from what happened to you, while still carrying parts of it with you.

We develop ways of protecting ourselves because at some point, we needed that.

What I've been focusing on a lot lately has been recognising which parts of me are genuinely me and which parts were built to protect me.

That's not about erasing the past or changing everything about me.

It’s understanding it well enough that it doesn’t get to keep making decisions about my future.

If you're struggling with something similar, you definitely don't have to do it alone. Reach out.

Weekend away in the GC and Byron.

I was lucky to be there to see @blakeworrallthompson marry the love of his life @shani_worrallthompson yesterday. Congratulations again guys, was an incredible day.

Blake gave me a start in the fitness industry and I wouldn't be where I am today without him giving me that opportunity. In more than one of the speeches last night, Blake's ability to build communities and bring people together was mentioned. That's such a powerful thing to do mate and I'm so thankful to have been able to learn from you.

This was on full display yesterday.
