Watching these beautiful animals cross the river and seeing them in the morning mist were moments worth making time for.

So grateful for friends who share my love of wildlife and understand why we can spend hours waiting for a photograph.

And somehow, a sunset feels a little different when you’re watching it from a friend’s backyard, sharing the kind of moment you know you’ll remember long after the light is gone.

Wild skies. Good friends. El Paso.

We spend so much of our time looking down.

At our phones. At where we’re going. At whatever is right in front of us.

But every once in a while, remember to look up.

You never know what might be happening right above your head or what you might be missing.

There’s something about black and white that strips everything down to the moment.

Just two bucks, their velvet antlers, and the quiet connection between them.

There’s something about the quiet moments between these two that I love watching.

They’ve been spending a lot of time together in the backyard this summer, and every once in a while I get to catch moments like this, the closeness, the little interactions, and those velvet antlers all tangled together.

It’s easy to focus on the antlers, but sometimes it’s the connection between them that makes the photo.

If you’ve ever walked near a marsh in spring, you’ve probably heard them before you saw them.

Red-winged blackbirds are fiercely territorial, and they’ll often dive-bomb much larger animals, including people, to protect their nests.

A flash of crimson, a loud song, and a fearless attitude make them one of the easiest birds to recognize around wetlands.

The sounds of loons are something I’ll never forget.

I remember sitting in my hotel room with the window open listening to their calls, and then at sunrise I was lucky enough to photograph this family together. Watching the chick ride on its parent’s back while those calls echoed across the water made it one of my favorite bird photography moments.

Nature has a way of creating memories that stay just with you.

Wildlife photography has a way of slowing you down.

There’s a lot of waiting. A lot of watching. And a lot of appreciating the moment.

Then, in a split second, what you were waiting for all this time happens. It's a little bit like life.

I started walking back to the house… then stopped.

And stopped again. (And you know ..again)

Long shadows, quiet streets, and a few fleeting moments that were too beautiful to pass by.

One lesson photography has taught me is this: don’t wish you had stopped, just stop. Be present. Notice the fleeting moments. And when you can, capture them.

Leave it to me to photograph the smoke instead of the fireworks. 😊

After my neighbors’ fireworks show ended, the drifting smoke and scattered light completely transformed the yard. The atmosphere only lasted a few minutes, but it felt like wandering through a movie set.

Sometimes the unexpected is far more interesting than what everyone came to see.

Every sunset tells a different story.

This one felt like the sky couldn’t decide whether to storm or celebrate… so it did both. I liked that.
