The Midwest and parts of the east coast are going to be brutal hot this week. It is incredibly important for all people to protect themselves from the heat BUT especially is important for people with diabetes. Here are just a handful of quick tips to help you stay safe with diabetes in the heat.

Of note, in the “drinks to avoid section” I mention alcohol but grouped it in with salty and caffeinated drinks. Alcohol should be avoided due to not only its dehydrating potential but also because depending on the type of alcohol, will have a lot of sugar. Also your liver may prioritize breaking down the alcohol and not creating glucose, which can lead to low blood sugar levels.

Again, most of these tips are beneficial for all people in the heat but especially for people with diabetes.

I am currently in the middle of the longest day of travel that I have had in a looong time. I have been trying to get content organized all day while traveling and have been having phone issue after phone issue. I finally got that worked out and I am now on my delayed flight back home so I figured I would buy the WiFi to try and get something put together. Unfortunately, this WiFi is the spottiest ever and cannot handle uploading from iCloud so I am calling it and going to try sleep on the plane instead since I still work tomorrow. Normally I would be beyond annoyed with all these hiccups keeping me from being as productive as I would like but truthfully I am just so thankful for the experiences of this week that it is hard to be mad at anything. I started working through a lot of heavy shit that I have been carrying and pushing down over the last few years and I am excited to keep that work going. I will recap more when I am home with functional WiFi but in the meantime we will see if the plane WiFi will let me upload at least this one photo that I think perfectly sums up what the last three days have felt like… a long embrace from a friend you haven’t seen in years. Thank you @wearfigs for a very emotionally productive few days.
