Another day where I am filled with rage at how the health insurance industry is actively harming patients.

ITS OFFICIAL! I have joined team USA for the World Cup… and by that I mean I have noticed a trend among the players’ intro videos. THESE BOYS LOVE HAND HYGIENE. You’ll never catch any of us getting in trouble with infection prevention.

The Midwest and parts of the east coast are going to be brutal hot this week. It is incredibly important for all people to protect themselves from the heat BUT especially is important for people with diabetes. Here are just a handful of quick tips to help you stay safe with diabetes in the heat.
.
Of note, in the “drinks to avoid section” I mention alcohol but grouped it in with salty and caffeinated drinks. Alcohol should be avoided due to not only its dehydrating potential but also because depending on the type of alcohol, will have a lot of sugar. Also your liver may prioritize breaking down the alcohol and not creating glucose, which can lead to low blood sugar levels.
.
Again, most of these tips are beneficial for all people in the heat but especially for people with diabetes.

FIGS retreat day one recap! I finally had a moment after work to sit a make a little vlog about day one. All I can say is that watching back all of this footage and choosing pictures really has me missing Ojai, the @wearfigs team, and my friends so damn much.

First clip is from @hereswhykevin. This country and administration are a joke. We just wanted healthcare, affordable food and housing, and to not speed run destroying nature but instead we got *gestures broadly* this…

Nothing worse than accidentally hitting scar tissue especially because you also can guarantee your insulin absorption is going to be trash in that site. #omnipod #typeonediabetes #t1d #diabetes #type1diabetes

Oh damn! They *almost* tricked me into picking up an extra shift. Good thing @wearfigs has my back whether I am on shift or on the couch. Happy nurses week to all who celebrate. Be sure you know your worth and advocating for more than that cold break room pizza!

Not sure what this post will gain but hopefully it is the attention of the @cityofrockfordillinois. Last night while driving home we hit a huge chunk out of the road. It was dark and there were no cones and no “bump ahead” signs. My wife’s car bottomed out and it jolted all of us. The result was two popped tires, dented rims, and a nice new road rash on the bumper. Hoping that is the extent of it but the mechanic will let us know tomorrow. Now, after my wife submitted a complaint to the city, the hole is filled with a nice heaping mound of gravel. I am curious how many others who traveled this road woke up to flat tires today as well. #theartistvstheart

I told my collaborative that I needed him for a video and that he just needed to stand there with his hands up… he had no other information. His reaction is the best. As an NP, especially a brand new NP, having a supportive collaborative/mentor (and in my case, a supportive co-NP as well) is huge for being successful in your first role. As I celebrate my first year of being a family practice NP, I just have to thank all of those on my team and at our practice who have provided guidance and support over the last year. You all are my everything.
.
Shout out to @tigrangertz and @applewoodlandscaping for the content idea too!
