It is no secret that conservative agendas are mainstreamed in the UN lately. The Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women and Girls released a report at HRC62 on violence against mothers that reduces women and gender diverse persons to their reproductive capacities. The report waters down the right to abortion and undermines the agency and autonomy of marginalised communities. Together, @NSWP, @WHRIN, @GATE and @ICW living with HIV, and AWID delivered a statement with a clear message: bodily autonomy is a non-negotiable and a fundamental right for all. The right to dignity and self-determination of trans people, sex workers, women who use drugs, and women living HIV must be recognized, protected, and upheld.

Yes, we need to rethink how to include all trans and gender diverse people! Yes, we need to rebuild the HIV / AIDS Global Response in ways that truly reflect the needs, challenges and lived realities of our communities! Yes, we need to rise up our communities globally, and let the world see the great leaders and experts we are! From 26 to 30 July, GATE will proudly be at aids_conference in Brazil, to meet with people from all over the world, inform society and bring the best knowledge and expertise to you. Our Health Officer, Pedro Ivo Oliveira and our Executive Director, Erika Castellanos, are at the UN High Level Meeting on HIV/AIDS in New York. Next month, GATE will launch its research report on the impact of anti-gender attacks on access to healthcare. The numbers presented in the report highlight the impact of democratic backsliding on access to health services, demonstrating how trans and gender diverse communities have been prevented from accessing life-saving HIV care. #transagenda #HIV #aids #unhlm #globalhealth
