The past few weeks have been a blur of movement, making, and conversation. As @upstateartweekend ends and the full moon rises, I’m taking a moment to consider & appreciate the hard work and the wonderful people I’ve met.

This video shows the latest resurrection of the in/finite hut, now on view @motherinlawsgallery. I’m grateful to have brought it east with me, and to see it take on new life with this community and its new semi-permeable skin. Making gives my life purpose; the artists, friends, and landscape around me keep me moving ahead.

The two people who helped build the original hut nearly ten years ago are no longer in my life—my stepfather passed away, and my former partner moved on. This work reminds me that things evolve. At best, we carry pieces of one another forward, and we keep learning as we go.

At the opening, I walked into the hut and found it filled with young artists, including two recent Bard photo grads, a full-circle surprise. I’m proud of this new/old hut. With time, its ambitions have become clearer: a space between inside and out, for imagination, contemplation, and simply being together. Thanks @fieldprojects @elijah_wheat_showroom @gokateshoot & to all of this great community of humans I’m still getting to know ✨

I’ve been busy mapping out how petroleum is currently used in our society, examining how fossil fuels have found their way into almost every aspect of my life. I’m delighted to share my work among this group of talented artists. Opening February 7: ‘Hudson Valley Artists: Terrestrial Extra’

Join us for the 19th iteration of The Dorsky’s annual exhibition series featuring contemporary art made by artists in the Hudson Valley. Guest-curated by artists Alta Buden and Craig Monteith, ‘Terrestrial Extra’ explores how remnants from stone and sand quarries, cement factories and clay pits—stone, glass, cement and clay, along with products and byproducts including steel, wood and charcoal—are also generative art materials.

For most of 2024 I was part of the @photobookprogram program through @penumbrafoundation . After some fun experiments, I focused on a document of my unexpected breakup and beginning anew. As I worked on this project, I often thought of my maps program when I ignored its guidance it would repeat at me “reformulating route”.

My reformulation: I moved from the Bay Area to the Hudson River Valley, started making things with clay, began writing sad/angry long-form poetry, and found myself drawing entangled, distended bodies.

I was interested in creating a document of this time, both as a way to help me move forward and in the hope of helping others as they navigate grief. I see this book as an intimate, humble, processing machine.

The amazing thing is it was effective- this book is a time capsule I am appreciative of, I can hold the sadness in my hand and move forward with a new perspective on life and love.

There are currently two copies of this book, one is at the Penumbra Foundation Library in NYC, and the other is @griffinmuseum Museum as part of their Handmade Photobook Exhibition. I’d love to make a few changes and make a few more of them, but for now I’m happy it’s being enjoyed.

hello from Beacon, NY. I’ve had a nice sticky summer in which i’ve had time to consider how beings share energy, write, make sculptures from sticks, garden, hike, meditate, become a hypnotherapist (more on that later) and experiment with clay at @thenewburghpottery
I’m also taking a bookmaking class @penumbrafoundation, which has me creating a series of book dummies. The one below uses AI to recreate the imagined experiences of participants from #expandingspace— with more rough drafts and dummies to follow. Thanks @rebeccahorne600 for your editing insights 🙌🏽💗

2/2/22! We recently discovered that behind the western non-holiday of Groundhog Day lies the Gaelic / Pagan holiday Imbloc, which marks the beginning of spring. This day lies roughly halfway between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. In addition this time of year brings us the Lunar New year, versions of which are practiced throughout Asia. This is commonly seen as an opportunity for families to clean their house- to sweep away ill fortune and to make way for incoming good luck.
For us 2021 has been a year of dogs, of eternal learning, of growing apart and coming together.
We are thankful to have each of you in our lives.

Now showing as part of #tunnelsofthemind @zaz10ts at Times Square NYC! this video elaborates on my #FITE project by filming #crudeoil. The phrase #sunshineisineverthingwedo is a reminder that #oil is phytoplankton buried in the earth for millions of years. The programming is to celebrate 150 years of #sfai. videos will play for the next five days, 6/10-6/15 7-9am & pm at Times Square. Also this fri/sat projected at 9pm onto the tower at #sfai, also live streaming on the SFAI website. Thanks @sfaiofficial I have loved being a part of this amazing community 💗👊🏽.
