More to come later, but for now, suffice it to say that we are basking in the joy and exhaustion of parenthood, coupled with deep gratitude to and compassion for our son’s birth parents for making this difficult choice — and for entrusting us with this most precious responsibility.

Feeling lucky to live on Lake Erie and to have friends who plan themed events just for the fun of it. Thanks to @tephaniesa for putting together a little white wine tasting inspired by her recent trip to wine country!

We had a great time making fun of very self-important wine descriptions while genuinely enjoying six bottles specially selected for us by the guy at @minottis_fairview. 🌊🍷

(PS, it turns out I’m a sauv blanc kinda gal. Nice to finally learn about myself at age 41!) (PPS, please get all the Chardonnay outta here, though.)

I haven’t been up to all that much lately, but I’m stilllll making an effort to dress in outfits I genuinely like, even when I’m just running errands or working from a coffee shop. Sometimes they’re super simple, and sometimes I put in a little more work to come up with something fun…

And of course, it doesn’t always pan out. For example, it turns out that maybe I hate the shorts in the last clip of this video (apparently jorts are back?!) (but I DO love the Elmo cameo, so I left ‘em in).

All that said, there’s a heatwave coming next week, so, as the World’s Sweatiest Human™️, we’ll see if I can keep up with caring… 🫠

The love of my life turned 2 years old today, and words can’t possibly do justice to how wonderful he is or to all of the incredible ways he has changed our lives.

Leo David, may you grow to be happy, healthy, kind, smart, strong and brave — all the things you are now, but even more so. And whoever you become, I know I will love each and every version of you along the way.

I promise never to take our life together for granted, my sweet boy, or to forget what it took for us to become family.

We were never strangers. You were right here all along. 🩷

One of my favorite things about the creator social last week at @cycleflystudio didn’t happen during the event itself. It was beforehand, when a girl who was leaving the studio stopped me to say hi. She told me she’d been following me for years — back when I first started riding, when I hit 100+ classes and then got injured and never quite returned. “ I’ve seen it all,” she told me. “I’m glad to see you bring it full circle and come back around!”

I don’t really think of myself as An Influencer™️. I don’t make money, and I don’t get invited to many events, and I don’t have a ton of followers. But many of the ones I DO have have been here for a long time — some for more than a decade (hi, internet friends). So, it genuinely means a lot to me when I hear from someone who’s stuck around for so long and enjoyed some aspect of my life that I’ve shared here.

When I first started riding, I quickly became an evangelist, making it my mission to encourage other people — especially nervous ones, like me — to give it a shot. I wanted people to feel like they weren’t alone in trying things they were afraid of. And it worked: Nearly a dozen people told me they tried cycling after seeing me post about it.

If I’m going to influence anyone to do anything, let it be that — to push through anxiety, to give things a shot, to explore new places and experiences. To step beyond what you usually do and explore what else could be possible. To collect new experiences. To evolve and grow and regress and grow again — always and forever, on repeat. 🫶🏻

(And PS, if one of those things you want to push yourself to try is a cycling class? Hey, you know where to find me. I’ve got a referral code and a lot of enthusiasm, and I’d love to save a bike for you.)

When Mike and I were looking to buy a house, we considered the suburbs — or, more accurately, we argued about the suburbs. He, fairly, wanted to at least see all our options. For me, Lakewood was the only viable option outside Cleveland proper, and I know I was a real pain in the ass about how hard I insisted upon it.

But it was all worth it (if I may say so myself) to end up in an area that is so walkable, so friendly, so full of little gems on every block. Yes, it’s technically a suburb. But to live 12 minutes from downtown Cleveland but also be able to take daily walks like these? It’s the best of both worlds. And that’s priceless.

I’ve been working “from home” for a decade and a half, which means I actually spend a lot of time in coffee shops — and a bunch of new ones have have recently opened in the CLE! Here’s a look at a few of the spots I’ve explored lately.

📍 @drinkatmoscoffee at the edge of Gordon Square is sleek and modern and full of plant life. They serve coffee drinks and waffles, and they’ve got lots of seating, both communal and individual.

📍 @fikacafelakewood is an all-day cafe on Hilliard Ave. in Lakewood. It’s bright and airy, serving pastries in the morning and Middle Eastern food for lunch and dinner. Tons of seating!

📍 @vesselcoffee.cle on the far west end of Ohio City is gorgeous and cozy. It doesn’t have quite as much seating, but the tables it does have are small and good for solo hangs or a one-on-one coffee date.

I love supporting small businesses, especially when I meet the owners and really like them… and it’s even more fun when someone I already know and like starts a new small business of their own!

I never saw myself becoming an all-secondhand girlie. But in the last few months, thrifting has gone from something I felt mostly squeamish about to something I love and can’t wait to do again ASAP.

The main thrift store in my hometown is a behemoth — and, in my opinion, kind of a mess? It’s SO chaotic. As a teen, my friends and I went there to find costumes for the high school music and themed dances, but I never bought my everyday clothes there. Even now, that specific store makes me feel claustrophobic, and I can’t stay long. I think it always made me assume I didn’t like secondhand shopping.

But I’ve started to find my spots — thrift stores organized by size, not color; consignment stores where everything feels practically new; resale apps where I can replace some of my favorite past-season items for cheap. Now, I honestly can’t remember the last time I bought something new, and absolutely never for full price.

It’s not for everyone, and hey, it might not always be for me. But for now, I’m having a lot of fun. 🛍️
