One year ago, a group of @purdue.ece students blew our minds with their Rubik's Cube robot, which solves the puzzle faster than the blink of an eye. 🤯 "Before you even realize it's solved, we've solved it." A big THANK YOU to the Purdue Engineering community for participating in the 2026 Design Expo and #PurdueDayofGiving! Design Expo and the Malott Innovation Awards, hosted jointly at the Purdue Armory, featured nearly 180 teams of more than 1,000 students. Boilermakers also gave back in a big way, with 340 donations to Purdue Engineering totaling nearly $12 million on Purdue Day of Giving. That's excellence at scale. "It is heartwarming to know that someone is out there willing to support my education." For Jennifer Yang, a Purdue Engineering scholarship was more than financial relief; it meant someone believed in her. That encouragement is being paid forward in a big way. Jennifer and her senior design team are developing a portable incubator and bacterial detection system that uses elastic light scattering technology to accelerate public health safety — the kind of innovation that could one day change lives. For Jennifer, that's exactly the point. Senior design is where four years of learning becomes something real. Her project was on display today at Design Expo in the Purdue Armory. Her senior design project tackles a real engineering challenge: an automated, self-service safety glasses dispensing system for @purdue.me shops, improving safety compliance and providing 24/7 access beyond limited staff hours. "It's always a good opportunity to start, try something new." The gateway course "Changing the World with Chips" features industry speakers who provide first-year students with industry overviews and career pathways in the semiconductor field. Since 2022, more than 900 students have taken this course. It's part of a campus-wide semiconductor certificate accessible to all undergraduates.
