The MAJORITY athletes do plyometrics just to get tired… But good plyometrics should make you more explosive. These are my top 5 plyometric drills for athletes. • Chair jumps – concentric power and vertical force production✅ • Single-leg depth drops – landing mechanics and unilateral stability✅ • Depth jumps – reactive strength and elastic power✅ • Knee jumps – hip extension and explosive intent✅ • JAPAP jumps – rapid force production and vertical explosiveness✅ Plyometric training for athletes should build: • Explosiveness✅ • Reactive strength✅ • Force absorption✅ • Landing control✅ • Elastic power✅ Not just conditioning❌ The goal isn’t to do more jumps. The goal is to become a more explosive athlete. And yes… recovery matters too. That’s why I use Swole As Buck gummies daily easy 5g creatine without the shaker bottle mess. Most athletes chase exercises… But most athletes ignore what those exercises are actually building. These are my top 5 exercises every athlete should be doing. • Drop lunges – deceleration, control, and single-leg strength✅ • Anti-rotation DB press – core stability and force transfer✅ • Single leg RDLs – balance, posterior chain, and movement control✅ • Pendlay rows – upper back strength and explosive pulling✅ • Med-ball slams – full-body power and intent✅ Being “athletic” isn’t about doing more. It’s about building strength, control, and power that actually transfers. Most athletes can run fast. But most athletes can’t flip, react, and re-accelerate efficiently. These are my top 3 hip flip drills. • Hip Flip Chase – teaches athletes to flip their hips fast and explode out of the backpedal • Shuffle Switch Punch – builds lateral control, directional change, and quick transitions • Hip Switch Sprint – develops lateral speed, hip control, and reactive acceleration Speed isn’t just straight ahead. The faster you can flip your hips and change direction, the faster you become. Remington Speed Lab DM “FAST.” by @remingtonspeedlab
If your first step isn’t explosive, moving your feet faster isn’t going to fix it❌ You need to be able to produce high levels of force quickly, especially from static and split-stance positions. These are my top 5 exercises for developing first-step explosiveness: • Dead-Stop Zercher Split Squat - Builds unilateral starting strength by forcing you to overcome inertia and produce force without relying heavily on momentum or a countermovement✅ • SS Stomp Knee Drive - Develops aggressive ground contact, hip projection, and the ability to rapidly transition force through a powerful knee drive✅ • BB OH Press Box Split Jerk - Trains explosive triple extension and rapid force production while transitioning into an athletic split position✅ • Banded RFESS Pulses/Jumps - Develops reactive strength by challenging you to absorb force and quickly reverse from eccentric loading into an explosive takeoff✅ • Seated BB Pop-Ups - Develops starting strength and rate of force development by producing explosive movement from a seated, near-static position✅ The first few steps of acceleration happen FAST. That means it’s not enough to simply be strong. You need to produce force quickly, project it effectively, and coordinate that force through positions that actually transfer to acceleration. These exercises build those physical qualities. But remember, the weight room supports speed. It doesn’t replace sprinting. If you want to get faster, you still have to sprint. Build the force. Apply it fast. Then put it into the ground. And recovery matters too. That’s why I use Swole As Buck Gummies daily. 5g of creatine monohydrate without powders, shaker bottles, or mixing. Two squats can look almost identical and still train completely different qualities. The difference is how you’re producing the force. • Free Squat - absorb force on the way down and rapidly redirect it back into the ground. This uses the stretch-shortening cycle and develops the ability to transition quickly from eccentric to concentric force production. • Dead-Stop Squat - pause and produce force from a near-static position. With less help from stored elastic energy, you have to create force from a dead stop. Think about what your sport demands. Jumping for a dunk requires you to absorb and redirect force quickly. Exploding out of the blocks requires you to produce high levels of force from a relatively static position. Neither variation is better. They’re different tools for different qualities, and a complete athlete should eventually develop both. Absorb force. Redirect force. Produce force from nothing. And recovery matters too. If you’ve had knee surgery, getting back to full strength isn’t just about moving more weight. You need to rebuild your ability to produce force and own positions around the knee. These are my top 5 isometrics for building stronger, more durable knees. • Heel-Elevated KB Wall Sit - quad strength and knee-specific loading✅ • KB RDL Iso Hold - hamstring strength, hip stability, and posterior-chain control✅ • Banded Split Squat Iso Hold - single-leg strength, stability, and positional control✅ • SL Leg Extension Iso Hold - isolated quad strength and knee-extension capacity✅ • SL Bent-Knee Calf Iso Hold - soleus strength, ankle stability, and lower-leg capacity✅ Isometrics allow you to create high levels of muscular tension without constantly moving through the joint. For athletes returning from knee surgery, they can be a valuable tool for rebuilding strength at specific joint angles, improving positional control, and gradually restoring the ability to produce force. But knee surgery isn’t one-size-fits-all. Your exercise selection and loading should match your stage of recovery and be cleared by your medical or rehab professional. Build strength. Own the position. Then earn your way back to explosiveness. And recovery matters too. Most athletes WANT to be explosive✅ But explosiveness isn’t just about how high you can jump❌ These are my top 5 exercises to build scary lower body explosiveness. • Weighted Pogos - ankle stiffness, reactive strength, and rapid ground contacts✅ • Single-Leg Depth Drops - unilateral force absorption, stability, and reactive strength✅ • Banded Eccentric Split Squats - eccentric control, single-leg strength, and explosive force production✅ • Banded Eccentric RDLs - posterior-chain strength, stability, and eccentric control✅ • Banded Copenhagen Planks - adductor strength, hip stability, and lower-body durability✅ Building an explosive athlete requires more than just producing force. You need to be able to absorb force, control it, and then produce it again FAST. That’s what allows you to sprint faster, jump higher, change direction harder, and stay explosive in unpredictable positions. Absorb force. Control it. Produce it FAST. And recovery matters too. Most athletes want to get faster and more explosive… but only train strength with both feet planted. Running, cutting, jumping, and accelerating all require you to produce and control force on ONE leg. These are my top 5 single-leg exercises for speed & power: • SL Block Hip Thrust – unilateral hip extension power✅ • Triple Extension Box Clean – explosive force through the ankle, knee & hip✅ • Banded Single-Leg RDL – single-leg strength, stability & posterior chain control✅ • MB Box Jump to Knee Drive – explosive single-leg force production✅ • SL Med Ball Slam to Airborne RDL – power, balance & deceleration control✅ Build strength on one leg. Produce force on one leg. Become a better athlete. Training powered by @swoleasbuck 💪🦌 Creatine gummies built for athletes who actually put the work in. Most athletes train their lower body to be explosive… But upper body power matters too. These are my top 5 explosive upper body exercises for athletes. • Hang Snatch - total-body power, rapid force production, and overhead explosiveness✅ • Banded Plyo Push-Ups - reactive upper body strength and explosive pressing power✅ • Close-Grip Bench Press - pressing strength and force production through the triceps✅ • Seated Med Ball Rebound - rapid force absorption and explosive overhead power✅ • Landmine SA GUSU - unilateral pressing strength, shoulder stability, and trunk control✅ Upper body explosiveness isn’t just about being strong. It’s about being able to produce force quickly, transfer that force through the body, and control it in different positions. That matters when blocking, throwing, fighting through contact, absorbing force, and producing power on the field or court. Build strength. Produce force. Produce it FAST. And recovery matters too. That’s why I use Swole As Buck Gummies daily. 5g of creatine monohydrate without powders, shaker bottles, or mixing. Most athletes think jumping is just jumping. But these two jumps can train completely different sides of explosiveness. Resisted vs. Assisted Jumps. Here’s the difference. • Resisted Jumps - add load and increase the force demand. The athlete has to produce more force to get off the ground. • Assisted Jumps - unload the athlete and allow them to move at higher velocities than they normally experience at bodyweight. So which one actually makes you more explosive? It depends on what you’re missing. If you’re naturally quick and reactive but struggle to produce enough force, resisted jumps can help attack the force side of the force-velocity relationship. If you’re strong but struggle to express that strength quickly, assisted jumps can expose you to higher movement velocities. That’s why blindly copying someone else’s jump training doesn’t always work. Two athletes can have the same goal and need completely different stimuli to get there. Don’t just jump more. Train the quality you’re actually missing. And recovery matters too. That’s why I use Swole As Buck Gummies daily. 5g of creatine monohydrate without powders, shaker bottles, or mixing.
