The Niger Delta is home to a wealth of creative talent, but limited opportunities, funding and industry support have kept many from reaching their potential.

The Niger Delta Creative Industry Expo (ND Cre8 EX) aims to change this by connecting artists, investors and businesses, promoting intellectual property rights, sustainable financing and AI skills.

Through a ten-year vision, the initiative hopes to build a thriving creative economy, empower young talent and reshape how the region is seen beyond its oil wealth and troubled history.

Kitenge is more than colourful fabric—it carries memories, identity, culture and dreams. From weddings and family celebrations to modern fashion, the fabric continues to evolve with each generation.

But behind its beauty lies a growing industry story: traders, tailors, designers, farmers and entrepreneurs whose livelihoods depend on it, alongside questions about imports and Africa’s textile future. As young Africans reinterpret kitenge for modern life, its story continues to be stitched into the continent’s future.

What happens to a baby’s umbilical cord after birth? 🌱

Across Africa, the answer has traditionally been far more meaningful than a hospital bin. In communities from Nigeria to Kenya and Sierra Leone, cords were buried, planted with trees, or kept by families as symbols of belonging, ancestry and connection to the land.

As childbirth moves from homes to hospitals, some of these traditions are disappearing — while others quietly survive.

What did your mother do with yours? 🌍 Full story by Babs @b_foyin coming up in RemoteReporter Journal.

Wise quote by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie about modern relationships.

Today, in many African communities, the amounts demanded for bride price have significantly increased, while the list of expectations has become longer and more demanding.

Social status, professional success, and educational background are often used as measures to justify higher bride price demands. What was once a symbolic tradition can sometimes turn into a financial competition shaped by social pressure and public image these days.

However, for those with the courage to be disliked, who don't do things like degrees for popularity status, the challenge may be this: what does a woman need to ask for when her soul journey and mind are intelligent enough to be able provide for herself, and her husband is woke enough to realize the marriage won't be about financial control?

Every day, millions of women and girls across Africa walk long distances to collect water for their families. Carrying heavy containers, often for hours, they face exhaustion, unsafe roads, harassment and the risk of violence.

When clean, running water isn’t available at home, something as basic as drinking, cooking and washing becomes a dangerous daily responsibility. Access to safe water is not a luxury—it is a fundamental human right. No woman or girl should have to risk her safety to collect water.

🌱 What if food security could begin in your own backyard?

In Kenya’s Kisii and Nyamira counties, women like Josephine Gesare are transforming small kitchen gardens into reliable sources of nutritious food, income and hope. By growing indigenous vegetables, harvesting rainwater and diversifying crops, families are finding practical ways to adapt to a changing climate. 🌿

For Gesare, the garden is more than a source of food—it represents resilience, independence and a healthier future for her children.

When does political mobilisation become undue influence?

Former President Goodluck Jonathan wants Nigeria to confront this now.

Reacting to the Osun governorship election, he flagged the growing presence of governors, aides and security personnel at off-cycle polls in Osun, Ekiti and Ondo.

Jonathan says it creates apprehension and pressure, and is calling National Peace Committee to convene a national dialogue with INEC, parties, NASS and civil society to set clear boundaries before this becomes normal.

So we ask you: where should the line be drawn? 👇
