As promised, Siuan with her golden frame 🌟

I’m going to order some test prints of this before making it publicly available on my InPrnt shop. A friend also suggested looking into getting a gold foil version. I don’t know how to do that but would love to see how that looks!

It has been 2 months since I went to watch Audra McDonald in Gypsy on Broadway and I still feel like it was a dream that was too good to be true. Being mere feet from Audra as she sang the stage down was one of the greatest experiences of my life and I will cherish it forever. I was literally right in front of her when she came down to the edge of the apron while performing Rose’s Turn, and I looked straight up at her with tears rolling down my neck. The line in Rose’s Turn “Well, someone tell me when is it my turn?” always hits me, a late bloomer, really hard. I think about that line quite a lot, especially after seeing the show.

Just being there collectively with the audience, feeling every note, hearing people’s gasping sobs in the moments of silence was addicting. I felt so many different things while watching the show—seen, validated, encouraged, scared, and overwhelmed with joy. Those of you in the NYC area should definitely try to see it in the next week before it closes because it is 100% worth it. The whole cast was incredible.

Prints are available at the Inprnt link in my bio!

“Come with me. We’ve done it, we’re okay now.” 💚

I love how in interviews for this film, @cynthiaerivo has talked about her younger self, and (as Elphaba) bringing her younger self with her. I mean, if you saw the movie, you also know that there was a very literal version of that depicted as well. It was an extremely powerful moment, and I just wanted to do a little something to honor that, the connection between the younger and older self. I have been trying to access and heal that younger self, and it is one of the many things that really left me fighting to stifle my sobs while watching this movie.

This year has not been great for me creatively or health-wise, and I have been exhausted and feeling stagnant with little to no growth 😔 Very glad that Pokémon has been able to bring me some joy lately, though. Now I just need the devs to add Cottonee to the game and all of my faves will be there 😎

Hi! My name is Laurel and I am putting together a small Siuaraine fanzine to not only celebrate this beautiful couple that deserved happiness, but to also raise money for the Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund. This zine will feature fanart and fanfic from some of the amazing and writers in the fishwives fandom. This is just an interest check right now to see how many people might genuinely be interested in a printed copy, so I can figure out a realistic print run. If there’s enough interest, I’ll move forward with preorders afterward.

This idea was inspired by @mocong.yuan after she did her recent Siuaraine zine to raise funds for charity, and with her blessing, I wanted to do something similar. It’s been over a year since the show ended, and I thought it would be nice to have a celebration of the fishwives, as I know this couple means a lot to a good number of us.

This is just an interest check right now to see how many people might genuinely be interested in a printed copy, so I can figure out a realistic print run. If there’s enough interest, I’ll move forward with preorders afterward.

Just to be transparent: this zine is not for profit. All sales will first go toward covering production and fulfillment costs, then contributor copies will be sent out, and anything remaining will be donated to the Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund. No mods (me) or contributors will be paid beyond their contributor copies.

If you’re interested in purchasing a copy, please fill out the form in the link in my bio. Your response will really help me with planning!

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out via DM! Thank you so much for your support!

A month into exploring linocut, I finally committed and carved on mounted linoleum (after only using Speedball’s Speedy Carve exclusively).

I have been thinking about a conversation I had with @charmarmusic a few weekends ago about how hard it is to keep going when you have been working for so long and still feel unseen, like there isn’t an audience. And you start thinking “what is the point of sharing anything if no one cares anyways”. But, as Charlotte said, it is about the heart of it all, the people who do actually care, even if just a few. It doesn’t make it any easier, though, the feeling of being left in the dust, trying to play catch-up against the algorithm machine. Things have not been great for me art-wise for a long time, and I’ve been feeling like crap. I currently struggle daily, through the extremely humbling practice of studying figure drawing fundamentals. But there is some satisfaction in exploring other mediums and successfully pulling off what you want to do.

Happy New Year from the cottage 💜

This show has been a lovely distraction from reality the past month and a half. I’m so grateful my coworkers recommended it to me 🏒🥅🏳️‍🌈

Creatively, I’m not in a great place right now. I spent November and December feeling extremely disconnected, discouraged, stagnant, and unseen, and thought about quitting my art journey more times than I’m willing to admit. I even questioned why I was on this app at all if it mostly caused me unhappiness. A lot of comparison has gotten to me, especially as a self-taught artist. I won’t delete my account, though, because I still want to share the work I make inspired by the creative people (actors, performers, etc) and things I admire. Beyond that, I don’t know what the future looks like. Hopefully better.

A piece I did last year based off of a photograph of a lava flow at Kilauea. Some of you may not know this about me, but I am an amateur rockhound and am obsessed with volcanoes (ask me about my volcanic rock collection 🤓). I especially love these types of lava flows— thick, slow-moving, rope-like. It is called a pahoehoe flow, and they always are so gorgeous when the light of the heat shines through the ropes and folds 🤩🌋 @hawaiivolcanoesnps @usgsvolcanoes

Cooking Lessons

This is the result of a conversation I had with @artbythorod plus the fish aprons I saw while in Portugal. I wouldn’t have drawn this if not for Anna! There might be more where this came from…

Should you happen upon a quiet little stretch of the river in Tear, you might spot these two women, enjoying each other after a swim, living the life they deserve 🐟🐡🌊

This was originally meant to be the Siuanraine Week prompt for October 6, “Outsider POV”, but I suppose it could also count as today’s prompt, which is “Another Turning of the Wheel/AUs”

I am so late at posting this, because of life, but I am glad that I at least got it done before the week was over!

A third Siuan because why not. She deserves to be celebrated. 💙🐟

I’m working on a second version of this where she is surrounded by a fancy golden picture frame! 🤩
